Cimmerona Heads Detroit Sophomore Line-up in Northwest Sportsmen Purse Daughter of Barre Granite Has Yet to Run Unplaced In Seven Michigan Starts By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 14. Fox Covert Farms stakes-winning filly, Cimmerona, a well-conformed daughter of Barre Granite and Sis Lure, heads a field of eight quick three-year-olds scheduled to meet here Tuesday afternoon in the Northwest Sportsmen Purse. ,TJnder the allowance terms of the six furlongs sprint, Cimmerona will spot each of her rivals weight when she parades postward under a bulky 117 pounds burden, which will include jockey Harold Keene. Cimmerona, lightly campaigned during her juvenile season, won three of her five starts, one of which was a well-deserved decision in the Governors Stakes, decided atthe local oval last August. Thus far this year, the Fox Covert Farm miss finished a close second to Mrs. Joseph Tom-linsons Loose Rock in the inaugural running of the three-quarters mile Livonia Continued on Page Forty-Eight j Cimmerona Seeks Honors at Detroit Daughter of Barre Granite Has Yet to Run Unplaced In Seven Michigan Starts Continued from Page One Stakes and, previous to that engagement, she ran second to Mrs. Otto C. Neumanns good filly, Beanir in the Northend Lions Purse, contested at a like distance. Cimmerona certainly rates the favorite post for the Northwest Sportsmen for she displayed high speed in the Livonia Stakes before bowing to the gelding, Loose Rock, by a half length margin. Although the Fox Covert filly is not at all partial to heavy going, the field that followed her and Loose Rock to the wire in the Livonia was such that she will surely take some beating in the Tuesday headliner. Vester R. Wright, who is far in advance of his fellow trainers with 16 successful charges at the current meeting, will send out an entry in the Northwest Sportsmen Purse; James Paddocks Nonnie Jo, 116, and the G and G Stables Pernie Lee, 110 pounds. Both the Wright-conditioned racers have shown occasional flashes of class and jockey Bobby Baird, top rider at the Detroit Race Course, will , have the mount on either Nonnie Jo or Pernie Lee. Others Slated to Start Others expected to start in the Tuesday feature are L. L. Hollandsworths Eternal Frolic, 105, Mrs. George C. Whites Trip Lightly, 105, Leo Edwards Activate, 116, Duntreath Farms Militant Miss, 105, and Southland Stables Kissin Kate, pegged at 114 pounds. The latter filly, winner in her last two local starts, beat Militant Miss by three parts of a length in the six furlongs Sportscasters Purse June 7 while Activate finished third just a head farther away. The probable return meeting of the trio is attracting considerable attention from the lads along the Detroit Race Course shed rows. Jockey Jerry West, who successfully handled Kissin Kate in her last two engagements, again will be at the reins on the Southland Stable miss in the Northwest Sportsmen Purse, Lois Cook will handle Trip Lightly and Anthony Skoronski is engaged for Eternal Frolic. Little Johnny Rotz will pilot Militant Miss and no reinsman had been named late today for Activate. One of the better supporting attractions on the Monday card is the six furlongs .fifth, which will match an even dozen fair class platers. G and G Stables Wicked Girl. Myron Smiths Pigeonette, C. C. Koltes Vyr, and Theodore D. Buhls Detroit-owned One Gamble, all recent visitors to the Detroit Race Course winners ring are expected to draw the major share of support in the dash. Arrayed against that quartet will be Peggy D., Beitel, Dukes Duchess, Els Folly, Maidens Reward, Limit Greenie, Darrol Beau and Compensator. Post time for the initial event on week days at theNMichigan mile track is set at 3:45 p. m.
