Lincoln Fields Notebook Lea Lane Rules Early Favorite For 0,000 Arlington Lassie By J. J. MURPHY LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, HI., June 14. Charlton Clays fine filly, Lea Lane, served notice here Saturday that she will be the favorite for the 0,000 Arlington Lassie Stakes at Arlington Park when she turned in a record-equaling performance for five furlongs. - And the colts in the 5,000 Arlington Futuritv had better1 be very good or she may trim them also. This Lea Lane looks like a mighty fine prospect, not only to be a champion filly this season, but in years to come. Even the most cynical horsemen at Lincoln Fields give her a chance to go down in turf history with Bewitch and Two Lea, to whom she is closely related, as well of others of her sex who are turf immortals. Of course, one naturally goes out on the limb in predicting that a two-year-old filly who has started but twice and has never been over five furlongs will carve a niche for herself in racings hall of fame, but this youngster has all the attributes. AAA Not only is Lea Lane very fast, but students of breeding will tell you that. she should go on. Her sire is Nasrullah, about which reams have been written as a producer of distance horses, and her relatives, the aforementioned Bewitch and Two Lea could run "all afternoon," Bewitch being the worlds leading money-winner on the distaff side. Two Lea was unplaced but twice in 26 starts and won 15 races. Bull Lea Lea Lanes grandsire, is also the sire of Citation. Nasrullah, her sire, begot Noor. And who can forget the series of great struggles between Citation and Noor in California four years ago, reaching its climax when Noor defeated the worlds leading money-winning thoroughbred in both the Santa Anita and San Juan Capis-trano Handicaps. Lea Lane has the background to become a champion. A A A Jockey Kenneth Church says that Lea Lane is the fastest filly he has ever ridden, and he was for a time the regular pilot for Princess Lygia when she was burning up the track in short races. Says Lea Lane undoubtedly would have set a new track record Saturday had he ridden her out. And that she could have won by considerably more than her 14 lengths. Owner and breeder Clay, who was present Saturday, was naturally enthused. The two-year-old filly stakes coming up at the coordinated Arlington - Washington Park meetings, aside from the Arlington Lassie, are the Pollyanna, 5,000" added; the Mademoiselle, 0,000 added, and the Princess Pat, 0,000 added. Bar accident, Lea Lane could make it a clean sweep. AAA Angelo Cilio put on his annual Italian smorgasbord in the racing secretarys office Saturday morning and it was enjoyed by one and all. . . .
