Honor Dr. Ensor At ThistleDown Mr. Skip, The Trooper and Ky. River Meet in Feature Named for Maryland Owner THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 14. The Dr. Wilmer C. Ensor Purse at six furlongs headlines a well balanced program to be presented by the ThistleDown Jockey Club on Tuesday afternoon. The feature honors Dr. Ensor who will be celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. He has one of the leading stables on the grounds and is one of the most liked men in the sport. He and his wife are from Cockeysville, Md., just outside of Baltimore and before taking up racing as a hobby he practiced medicine for nearly a half century. The game mare, Love Lock, is about the best horse that he has ever had in his barn. She was a consistent winner in the east and was a prime favorite in the Cleveland area. The famed rider "Buddy" Ensor, of another era, is his nephew. Slated to face starter Eric Blind in the Ensor Purse is a small, but very well balanced field of six which includes the stakes winner Mr. Skip who is owned and trained by Norman S. Scava. Named to face that one are A. B. Corbins Ky. River, Richard Fishers Skin Junior, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Coles Hot Cakes,. Mrs. Jenny Simons The Trooper and G, J. Burns Celandine. ThistleDown Cup Main Objective Mr. Skip has not been a winner as yet this season with trainer Scava bringing the Blenban colt along, nicely. His prime objective at the moment is the ThistleDown Cup to be run on July 17. Last season Mr. Skip scored his most important victory in .Randall Parks Great Lakes Stakes for three-year-olds. Under an excellent ride by Mike Caffarella the colt reached the wire first in a sensational stretch duel. The colt was entered several times after that, but being able to run on a fast track only was not himself during the latter stages of the Randall meeting or several of his races over this track last fall. Mr. Skip will be handled by the veteran Joe Servis in the Ensor. The Trooper is another non-winner this year and will also be making his initial start of the current meeting. Last season the gelded son of Payot won five-races and was in the money numerous other times. Under Burtons conditions for Tuesdays race the gelding will be asked to pick up 112 pounds which will include the saddle services of Alfred Tryon. Ky. River scored a front-nuaning two-length tally over Joe Graves in his last outing much to the surprise of the local fans. The track was slow and the gelding was timed in 1:15. The son of Fighting Step has a. particular liking for this track and also won several times here last fall. Billy Sackett will once again be astride the Cor-bin colorbearer. Of the others entered Skin Junior would appear to have the best chance of a winning race.
