TCA Members View Film Of Preakness Running Agree Hasseyampa Was in Tight Quarters; No Change Warranted LEXINGTON, Ky., June 14. A somewhat larger gathering than was expected was on hand here Saturday to view the official film patrol pictures of the 1954 Preakness Stakes at a luncheon meeting of the Thoroughbred Club of America in the Lafayette hotel. The day was unusually warm, but about 50 members were on hand to see the re-run of the Pimlico classic through the courtesy of Pimlico general manager John Jackson and steward Joseph Flanagan. Chief interest was centered on the battle at the head of the stretch between Hasty Road, Correlation and Hasseyampa. After the film was run off, there was general agreement that even though Hasseyampa got into tight quarters between the two leaders and was taken sharply to the inside by jockey Arnold Kirkland, it didnt appear that his chances of winning were seriously enough impaired to warrant any changing of numbers by the stewards. However, the films showed rather conclusively that Hasty Road had drifted out materially and had failed to maintain a straight course during the stretch run. The film patrol films were narrated by Lew Tracy of the Thoroughbred Record. The horsemens group also viewed a sound, color film produced by Atlantic City Race Course on its 1953 "Triple Turf Classic" made available by Dr. Leon Levy. Prior to the showing of the films, TCA president John Bell m. gave a short report on the progress of the club rooms to be established in the Phoenix hotel. He said that remodeling had been completed and that the furnishing and decorations had been ordered. With a little good fortune, he added, the rooms should be ready by the Keeneland Summer Sales the end of July.
