There were several leaders during the running, with Montadet setting the early pace, only to unseat his rider at the eighth jump. At the very next obstacle, G. H. Bostwicks Hyrcan came a cropper, falling heavily with Frank D. Adams. The latter appeared uninjured, as did Willard Thompson, Montadets rider. Avindo, racing for Mrs. M. G;. He faded badly to finish fourth, as Prince Glorieux moved boldly to wrest command along the backstretch, soon to be displaced by Carafar. Once on the lead, Carafar had litle difficulty in holding the opposition safe and his margin was never less than three lengths, which he increased to four after negotiating the final obstacle: Prince Glorieux had little trouble in holding sjafe the plodding Beaupre. The six-furlong fifth race, involving a half dozen allowance sprinters, resulted in the disqualification of Ella K. Brysons Or. Ben R., who had finished first oyer Mrs. Evelyn L. Hopkins Pampas Beauty, the ultimate winner. Pampas Beauty was bothered and forced to take up when Dr. Ben R. moved to the inside nearing the stretch, which was reason enough for the stewards to take action. Pampas Beauty, ridden by Oliver Cutshaw, returned .20 as a co-choice with Alan Clarkes Jeannie C. The latter was placed second, with Tyson Gil--pins Hilltop n. third. Time for the distance was 1:12. Companas Stables Besomer, a "two-year-old Double Jay colt, made the track look fast when he accounted for the five -furlong fourth roce in :59. Under Nick Shuks handling, Becomer dueled with Barclay Stables Aughill from the lead of the lane and gained a narrow victory over that Royal Charger colt to return .20. Third in this race was Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Masud. After Stanley C. Mikells Achilles had accounted for the opener at 0.40, John F. Keelors Celtic Play, a member of the mu-tuel field, took the second race to return 3.60 and complete a 15.40 Daily Double.
