Little Bing, Lady Doge Surprise at River Downs Return 7.60 and 1 .40 Mutuels Winning Second and Third Races By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 20. There were upward of 40,000 fans on hand on this hot, humid afternoon at River Downs but the long shot players were well rewarded in two of the first three events on the days eight-race program. In the second race, the second half of the Daily Double, M. K. Essigs Little Bing celebrated his first victory of the year and under jockey William Hubbards excellent handling eked out a nose verdict over E. Albrights Tonys Trouble. The Littletown gelding, who has displayed a wealth of early foot in each of his starts at the meeting, negotiated the six furlongs in 1:12 flat and returned a 7.80 mutuel. Mrs. James Bronnenbergs Lady JDoge and jockey Rollin Reynolds supplied the second surprise on the afternoons card and after reaching the wire three-quarters Tf- a length in advance of F. N. Berrys Whirl Off returned a 1.40 straight win pay-off. Mr. and Mrs. E. Edwards Princess Seven, which was backed into four-to-five favoritism, finished a well beaten fifth in the 12-horse field. C W. Hartwicks Pilots Image and Jockey Howard Craig took down the laurels in the opener and as third choice in the betting returned .80 and to those who had coupled Pilots Image along with Little Bing in the second, the Daily Double was worth 01.00. Tuesday eight-race program is featured by the National Association of Building Owners and Managers Purse, which matches six, entered to be claimed for either ,000 or ,000, over the six-furlong distance for a purse of ,800. Making up the field are F. Hansers Coal Heat, P. Thompsons Mike Reardon, the Florida Sun Stables Sistime, L. Halls Boston Bull, W. F. Scotts Sky Jeep and F. M Askbys Early Traffic. Sky Jeep lias turned in two winning performances in four starts at the meeting. The last was with the ,500 platers in the Hotel Terrace Plaza Purse early in the meeting. For the victory the Jeep colt and apprentice Arthur Salem negotiated six panels in 1:13 and while the track was fast there were spots along the route that were still rather dead because ,of previous rains. In his initial victory he also handled a good trip as effectively amid ,000 platers and went-the same distance in 1:13. Boston Bull was second foTSky Jeep in his last visit to the winners circle. That was his only outing over the course and from reports the Silver Bull gelding should be much improved. In two outings, Coal Heat has a win and Continued on Page Forty-Nine v i Little Bing, Lady Doge Surprise at River Downs Return 7.60 and 1 .40 Mutuels Winning Second and Third Races Continued from Page Three a second to his credit. For his victory, the son of Hypnotist II. Annies Reply, wound up a good half a length the best of the Ben Jo Stables steady going Son Joss. Tlie time for the six furlongs over a fast strip was 1:11 and jockey J. C. Fernandez had the honor. In his most recent endeavor he was nipped at the wire by R. C. Howards Idle Boy. The strip was heavy that day and evidently not to his particular liking as he will usually dog an opponent to the wire. Craig felt him give way briefly at the sixteenth pole in the deep going but as usual applied the "left-handed" whip and he came on again at the end to just miss. Mike Reardon turned in two consecutive victories, then was scratched from the seventh race last Friday. This four-year-old Relic colt has exhibited an ability to handle any racing surface as his last victory attests. For that, he went six panels over a very heavy and sticky race track in 1:16 and while Craig was merely sitting in the saddle the final sixteenth of a mile, had two and one-half lengths on Rogers and Jamesons Cider.
