Slinker Drives toWin ThistleDown Mile Test Broadmoor Colt Outgames Near You; Beautiful Lady is Third By J. R. BATTY Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 20. Broadmoor Farms Slinker, steadied behind the rapid pace cut out early by Beautiful Lady, took command inside the furlong post and went on to score by a length and a half in the featured sixth race here today. Ridden by jockey Bobby Martin, who donned silks at this track for the first time today, Slinker captured top share of a ,200 purse at the direct expense of Monte Prestons Near You, who saved the place award by a hand full of lengths from B. J. Bax Beautiful Lady. Drogheda, attempting to register his fifth straight victory at this meeting, failed to respond when set down for the drive and finished fourth in this mile contest, which brought together a half-dozen sophomores under allowance conditions. A three-year-old son of Colonel OF Falcon, Slinker paid 4.80 to his followers among the crowd of 5,588 and was timed the mile in 1:40 over a fast strip. Beautiful Lady came away from the gate in full stride and had taken a length and a half advantage over her opponents before they had gotten completely out of the Continued on Page Ten Slinker Drives to Win ThistleDown Mile Test Broadmoor Colt Ourgames Near You; Beautiful Lady Is Third Continued from Page One stall gate. Rounding the first bend, Beautiful Lady continued to show high speed and held a five-length lead over her nearest-foe, Slinker, while Rose Pearl was third. Close at the latters heels came Drogheda, Near You was in fifth place and Williams-port trailed. Leaving the final turn, Slinker and Near You went flying past Beautiful Lady, who shortened strides from her early efforts. The Broadmoor Farm colorbearer and Near You battled it out until midway of the drive and Slinker gradually asserted his superiority. Part Time, under the green and scarlet silks of his owner and breeder, Mrs. L. L. Voigt, Jr. emerged a driving victor oyer 11 other maiden juveniles who provided the sport in the opener. In close attendance of the pace from the start, Part Time went up to gain command inside the furlong post and gradually drew clear to score by a length over Bold Hunter, who nosed out Triple Honors for the place award. Favored in the betting by a slim margin over Bold Hunter, the winner paid .80 after jockey Ralph Borgemenke guided him the five and a half furlongs in 1:08. A disappointing choice in two of his three previous trips locally, Brookridge Stables Arthur Charles was slightly overlooked in the second race, and when he returned home first rewarded backers 1.40. Arthur Charles accomplished the task by a length over Undely, the public choice. Miss Argo closed strongly to just miss the show portion of the purse. Robert Musser handled Arthur Charles, who went the distance in 1:13. Part Time and Arthur Charles were worth 64.60 combined in the Daily Double. Djeddahs Star, who turned in a sensational morning trial here recently, was a heavy favorite to capture top honors in the -fourth race, which brought together 11 maiden three- and four-year-olds. Owned by Courtney Burton, Djeddahs Star was easily best of the group, crossing the wire two and a half lengths before his nearest . .foe, Cassia, who made the early pace. Another four lengths away came Andra Fair for the show. Dejaddahs Star carried Joseph Talenti, who scored his first victory since arriving at this track from Chicago recently. After going six furlongs in 1:11, the winner paid .20.
