Kelly Filly Shows Way to Snobbish and sRuns Five Furlongs in :5S4s MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N." J., June 20. Janet N. Kellys Hi and Fair scored a handy victory in the fourth race here this warm afternoon, scampering to the finish five and a half lengths before Jumping Brook Farms Snobbish. It was a half length back to Erlen Stables Miss Erlen in the field of eight juvenile fillies, all-of whom are eligible for the Colleen Stakes here on July 2. Joe Culmone, scoring his third. jdctory of the young afternoon, pushed the" Kelly miss over the fast track in :58 for the five furlongs. She returned 0.40 to her supporters in the crowd of 13,000. It was the second straight victory in as many starts for the daughter of Roman Bout Hi Criss, who was bred by A. F. Wall. Hi and Fair had started here early in the meeting and won by two lengths. Culmone opened up the day with a score on A. H. Bowens Duffin in the opener, then came right back in the third to win on the longshot, Green Dunes Farms Combustion II., who returned 2.80. Erickson Loses Stirrup Claude Erickson, on Snobbish, may have finished closer, but lost his right foot from the stirrup in the stretch drive, just when he was getting to her. Hi and Fair- came but of the gate alertly, while Celes Pet was off poorly to mar the start. Snobbish slipped through on the inside to take the lead going down the back-stretch, with Hi and Fair right next to her. The Kelly miss was content to stay in that position until midway of the turn where she forged to the front. Coming down the stretch, she widened her margin with every stride, but Culmone took no chances and touched her up with the whip in the early stages. Snobbish continued on well when the mishap to her riders iron happened. Miss Erlen, who, had been far back during the early running, came on with a rush to be third. Justin Funkhousers Cubed Ice, second m the Singing Tower and the Bowie Breeders Stakes, showed a flash of early speed running third to the head of the head of the stretch, but she was outdistanced after that and tired to be sixth. Twin Oaks Stables Roman Princess finished fourth. Hi and Fairs time was only two-fifths of a second off the track record set here last June 17 by Marys Bubble and tied four days later by Audrey Lee. Keeping her undefeated status intact, the Kelly miss qualified handsomely for her engagement a week from Saturday. !
