: ; Ohio House Passes Bill To increase Mutuel Tax Measure, Watered Down7 Much From Original, Sent to Senate COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 20. Prodded by Gov. Frank J. Lausche, the Ohio House has approved a measure to increase the tax on pari-mutuel wagering at horse races in the state. The House sent the measure to the Senate after passing it by a whopping 105-13 margin. However, in the Senate, the bill may become entangled in a flood of legislation that is piling up as the contemplated closing day of the law-makers, June 23, approaches. The bill approved by the House was "watered down" from the one that recently found rough going. Sponsored by Reps. Harold F. Miller, Toledo Democrat, and Ed Wallace, Circleville Democrat, the measure would permit running race track operators to deduct 13 yz per cent, instead of the present 12 per cent, from the betting pools. Harness race tracks would take 15 "per cent as compared with the present 14. From these deductions, the state would receive in taxes 3 per cent on the first 0,000 wagered daily; 4 per cent on the next 00,000, and 7 per cent on all .over 50,000. The state now receives 2 per cent on the first 0,000; 3 on -the next 0,000; 4 on the next 0,000; 5 on the next 00,000, and 6 on all in excess of 00,000. Thus, the measure apparently is aimed at the statejs major tracks, such as Thistle-Down and Randall. In addition, under the terms of the Miller-Wallace bill, taxes collected by the state from wagering on harness racing at county and independent fairs would be returned to the expositions. From a wagering standpoint, Ohios top fair is Delaware County, the state having collected ,000 in taxes from the beeting at Delaware last year.
