Helioscope Works Handy Five Panels at Monmouth Helis Ace Will Have Very Few Foes Tomorrow in Salvator Mile By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 20. William G. Helis, Jrs. Helioscope was hard-held by Sam Boulmetis in a five-furlong morning prep for the 5,000 added Salvator Mile to be run here on Wednesday, but he continued to display his excellent condition and was timed in 1:00. The dockers tabbed it as a "handy" workout, but Boulmetis threw his usual long hold on the big bay and was steadying him along as much as possible without "throwing him down." The four-year-old son of Heliopolis was timed the fractions in :23, :35 and :47. He was being eased up after five-eighths, but went the six furlongs in 1:13. Meanwhile there is considerable speculation as to the starting field against Helioscope, who is rated with High Gun as ono of the outstanding handicap performers of recent seasons. No horseman has as much as hinted to racing secretary John Turner. Jet Action, who carries the silks of Mrs. Elizabeth Grahams Maine ChanceFarm, is the only rival on the grounds considered capable of making it a contest against Helioscope and it is hoped that trainer Ike Mourax will elect to have the four-year-old Jet Pilot colt accept the challenge. Jet Action defeated Helioscope by a half-length with -a big weight advantage in the mile and three-sixteenths Roamer Handicap last fall at Jamaica. In the Salvator they would meet at equal weights of 126 pounds. Actually it appears that Jet Action might be a real threat if he starts. He appeared in the very best of condition when he made his initial foray of the season here last week. Jet Action shouldered 124 pounds and completely smothered his opposition running six furlongs in 1:09, which is only two-fifths off of the track record, and he was heing taken under snug restraint through the final sixteenth.
