Records for Non-Holiday Card Broken at Omaha 15,595 Fans Wager 75,497 on Saturday; Feature to English Lad By PAT CAUDILL Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 20. Records were broken here at Ak-Sar-Ben on Saturday for a non-holiday program when 15,595 fans turned, out and wagered 75,497 on the eight-race card which was headed by the ,000 added J. E. Davidson Memorial Handicap at six furlongs. E. K. Careys English Lad, handled by jockey Sonny Ray Williams, drove to a one length score in the Davidson with Ed Luthers The Snapper gaining the place position by two lengths over Olen Sledges Cross Ring. Eight racers went postward and the winner was backed to slight favoritism, paying .60 to win. Running time for the race was 1:12 over the oval termed as "good" and the winner earned the net sum of ,460 for his Denver, Colorado owner. The Sickle Purse, a claiming event for middle distance campaigners at one mile and one-sixteenth heads the program getting the semi-final week of this meeting under way Tuesday afternoon. Only seven are entered and W. R. Warrens Smokey Point carries topweight of 118 pounds and will be ridden by jockey Joe Rettele. This six-year-old son of Harvesting False Point will seek his second score of the meeting and while unplaced in his last attempt, a sprint affair on June 10, it Is very likely he will be backed to favoritism. He has won two outings this year in eight starts with his latest victory occurring on June 1 when he turned back five opponents to account for the Syracuse Purse. V. V. Longs Barts Enegry, winner of three outings at this meeting, is weighted at 117 pounds and will be ridden by jockey Robert Ford and while this campaigner continues to step up in company, he must be . considered a strong threat to the chances of the Warren representative. Rounding out the field will be F. O. Akins Seguro, to be ridden by apprentice Larry Byers; H. C. Zellers Open Heir, with leading rider of the meeting, Sonny Ray Williams, to do the piloting; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Craigs Sir Butch, with jockey Billy Powell aboard and A. Cascios Unceasing, and apprentice Wayne Chambers named to handle the reins.
