Williams Sets Pace for Riders At Ak-Sar-Ben Meeting AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 20. Sonny Ray Williams, the Electra, Texas, jockey appears well on his way toward repeating the riding honors he won at Ak-Sar-Ben in 1952. Williams, who was leading rider here that year, now leads the riders after five weeks of the current meeting with a record of 26 wins, 13 seconds and 15 thirds. His nearest rival is apprentice Larry Byers of Dolores, Colorado, who has a 15-16-10 record. Williams and Byers have exchanged the lead three times since the meeting started on May 19f Others among Ak-Sar-Bens top 10 riders are Robert Mundorf, Robert Ford, Eddie Burns, Gerald Gardiner, Thomas Osment, Fritz Becker, Charles lies and Jay Fish-burn. On closing day, July 4, Ak-Sar-Ben will present its traditional gold trophy and other awards to the leading rider and runner-up.
