Utopia Outlasts Ornum In Feature at Gansett Lightweighted DeStasio Runner Two and a Half Lengths Victor b joe hirsch NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., June 28. Dick DeStasios Utopia looped his field in the feirured Esmond Purse, rushing through the final furlong down the middle of the strip to a handy two-and-a-half length score before Mrs. A. Robertsons Ornum with J. R. Dwyers Pinocchio another neck back for third money. Apprentice Larry Adams was astride "Utopia, who was lightly regarded by the 11,664 in attendance on a bright summer afternoon, the winner returning 7.00. Under the feather of 107 pounds, Utopia covered the mile and a sixteenth in a leisurely 1:47, for his second tally of the campaign. It was a tough day for chalk players, favorites failing to reach the winners circle through the first seven events. The afternoon was highlighted by a pair of riding doubles for Darrell Madden and Bobby Us-sery, a pair of veterans ofvNew England turf wars. Pinocchio broke alertly in the feature to take the lead to the clubhouse turn with Cheribeacon and Go Go Go lapped outside of the pacemaker. Turning into the backstretch Pinocchio still held command but Gem drove up to within a head of the leader and Fancy Gent was now another half length back. Utopia, the six-year-old New World gelding who is owned and trained by DeStasio, a former rider, was trailing the 10-horse field. Fancy Gent moved -forward to show in front past the half mile pole a length and a half to the good of Jiffy with Pinocchio now running third. The favorite Final Proof was in the middle of the pack while Utopia was beginning to inch up slowly on the leaders. Curving for home Fancy Gent still held sway a head in front of Jiffy who was another two lengths in the van of Pinocchio. Final Proof and Utopia led the second flight. Straightening for the drive Fancy Gent enjoyed a narrow advantage at the eighth pole as Ornum drove to a contending position. Final Proof along the rail, found his path to the leaders well covered while Adams brought Utopia to the middle of the track and was launching a move. The latter was quickest through the final sixteenth, running down Ornum as Fancy Gent tired badly. i
