MISS ATLAS, forced to take up slightly when in close quarters on the far turn, recovered readily to take command with a rush nearing the furlong marker and briskly drew clear, winning with speed in reserve. GOLDEN ZIPPER worked her way forward between horses to the stretch, but lugged in during the late stages and was unable to seriously endanger the top one. MINUTE HAND sprinted into a clear lead "immediately after the start, gave way to the winner entering the stretch, then continued to tire when hard ridden through the final furlong. YANKEE BUCKLE, sluggish early, caught tiring horses. MERLEE was unable to keep up. WINGS OF EGYPT retired steadily after flashing brief speed. MAXIES STAGE began tardily and never menaced. SUPERGA tried to get out around the turn and lost all chance. WIRE COLLECT unseated her rider and galloped off a quarter mile during the post parade, then never was formidable during the running. J. Scott; bred by P. Mellon. IN GATE 5:00. OFF AT 5:00 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good for all but SMOKED" HAM. Won driving; second and third the same. BRAVELY WAVING was taken back slightly from the pace after a quarter mile, came to the middle of the track to regain closer contention entering the stretch and, after taking command inside the furlong marker, gamely withstood VALCARIE. The latter, never far back, responded readily when shaken for the stretch run and closed with good energy in a sharp effort. GALARCH, slow to gain best stride, rallied too belatedly to seriously endanger the top pair. OLAY held a clear lead when settled for the stretch run, but faltered thereafter when placed to stern punishment. PRYNESS tired. VIVID was unable to keep up. SMOKED HAM almost unseated his rider when he went into the air at the start, then showed nothing during the running. BIG SWITCH never was prominent.
