Arlington Park By J. J. Murphy Star Rover Here for Wright Memorial Set Saturday First Post at 2:00 P. M. Dave Erb Rates Judy Rullah High ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 28. Star Rover, winner of last Saturdays Lamplighter Handicap .at Monmouth Park, was due to arrive at Arlington Park sometime Tuesday afternoon to fill his engagement in the Warren Wright Memorial Handicap that will occupy the featured niche on a nine-race program Saturday. The three-year-old gray son of Flushing II. Miss Moonbeam, is coming in charge of trainer Eddie Anspach and will race in the colors of Mrs. Irving Gushen, wife of the popular president of the - Horsemens Benevolent and Pro tective Association. Star Rovers race in the Lamplighter was excellent and he is regarded as being a solid contender for the Wright Memorial that will be having its fifth running. No thoroughbred shipped in for the affair has been victorious in the past, although Hannibal and Bushers Beam each finished second. The"1 winners have been Jumbo, Red Charger, Van Crosby and Hasty Road. The Wright is forthree-year-olds exclusively. Accompanying Star Rover will be Impromptu, owned by the Brookfield Farm and trained by E. I. Kelly. Impromptu is a candidate for both the Warren Wright Memorial and the Arlington Classic, the latter event to be decided July 16. Expect Larger Holiday Crowd Than Last Year Executive director Benjamin F. Lindheimer has announced that starting time for Saturdays program will be 2 pan. instead of the usual 1:45 pjn. The 2 oclock starting time will prevail on every Saturday for the remainder of the meeting. Only deviation from that commencement of an afternoons program will be on Independence Day, next Monday, when the horses will line up for the initial encounter at 1:45 p.m. . . . Lindheimer looks for a very large gathering here on the holiday and expects it will exceed that of last season in numbers. The 1954 July 5 Independence Day count was 45,558. As Arlington Park is well equipped to handle large crowds, and has ample parking space for automobiles, patrons should all be able to view the sport in comfort. One of the features here is the transportation service provided for those parking their cars in the area beyond the backstretch. They are picked up and conveyed to the grandstand by bus and following the running of the races are returned to then-automobiles in like manner. Ed P. Metz, well-known breeder, was an arrival; accompanied by Mrs. Metz and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ikelberger. . . . Owner Wallace Strong is visiting from Silver Creek, Nebr. . . . By this time last year Chicago had experienced 10 days or more of over 90 degrees temperature. ... It is much more pleasant this way. . . . Saturdays feature, named for the former owner of Calumet Farm, is expected to see Trentonian bearing the Calumet silks. . . . Have just been informed that Mrs. Harry Lurie; wife of a veteran pari-mutuel clerk, passed away about three weeks ago. Bassett Announces Jockey Ball Ike Bassett finished passing out placards advertising the jockeys dinner dance, to be held July 21, and departed for Fairmount Park to look over the situation at that point. . . . Dave Erb says that he regards Judy Rullah as one of the best two-year-olds he has ever ridden, and that is something coming from Dave, who is a two-year-old rider from away back. Judy Rullah will make her next start in the Arlington Lassie according to trainer Strother Griffin. . . . Trainer John T. Kermath, who saddled Blue Violin for her unsuccessful essay in Delaware Parks New Castle Handicap last Saturday, is back.
