Astoria Attracts Eight Junior Misses MagnetOjMabeCee Coming Off Wins Former Is Full Sister to High Voltage; Bolero Jane May Prove Aqueduct Threat - By BOB HORWOOD Staff Correspondent AQUEDUCT, L. I, N. Y., June 28. Juvenile fillies take the center of the Aqueduct stage Wednesday in the forty-ninth running of the Astoria Stakes at five and a half furlongs. Eight junior misses, none of whom has yet achieved any notable distinction, have been named for this dash, which will gross 3,475 and net the winner ,800 if they all start. This edition of the Astoria, like most others in recent years, appears wide open, although two of the eight fillies come from winning races. Wheatley Stables Magneto, a full sister to High Voltage and who has been described by Mr. Fitz as the best of the juveniles in his care, followed three disappointing races at Belmont Park by winning rather easily on May 23. The daughter of Ambiorix, who is on the small side, appeared quite nervous in the paddock before her early races and appears to y have benefited from experience. The fact that she will be racing on her home track, avoiding a van trip, may also help, along with her favorable 113 pounds, most of which will be Ted Atkinson. Profited by Toor Starr Mabe Cee had speed to spare when she profited by a poor start to turn back Saxon Stables Planetrix, Vera S. Braggs Rosie" and four others here last Thursday under the same 119 pounds she carries tomorrow. The -daughter of Fighting Step has other good races to her credit, as well as some in which she compromised her own chances at the gate. She will be ridden by Bill Boland. Planetrix, who probably ran her best race when finishing two lengtlis behind Mabe Cee last week, gets in with 113 pounds, including Paul Bailey. She was getting seven pounds in their last encounter. Rosie, who tired badly last week, adds three pounds to carry 119 and will again have the services of Eric Guerin. The Astoria field is completed by C. T. Chenerys Scansion, 119; W. C. Partees Bolero Jane, Mrs. Charles Silvers Sylvia Porter and Joe Nashs Recherche. Scansion, who will be ridden by Eddie Arcaro, comes from a respectable race in which she finished third to Getthere Jack and Will of Allah, beaten five lengths for all the money in 1:05, second best time of the meeting. Bolero Jane, who will-be ridden by Hed-ley Woodhouse and breaks from number 1, showed sharp improvement over her debut by leading almost to the sixteenth pole last Tuesday, then finishing a distant second behind Coalspur. Sylvia Porter finished behind Rosie and Scansion in her last at -Belmont, but has better races to her credit before that. She will be ridden by Dick McLaughlin. Recherche turned in a promising race for her debut on Saturday finishing third to Be-Wi and Folding Mon after setting the pace.
