Finney, "president of Fasig-Tipton Company, vis- ited some eight or 10 breeding farms in Northern Virginia last week to look over the yearlings who have been consigned to Saratoga for the annual August vendue. He was very pleased with the forward condition of the animals and on the strength of the individuality and pedigrees, he looks forward to an excellent sale for the consignors from the Old Dominion. There will be changes made before the final shipments are made to the Spa but at the present time there are over a hundred yearlings whose owners and breeders are currently planning to sell them at the Saratoga Yearling Sales. This years list of sires to be represented include such names as Ribot one colt and one filly are to be sold, My Babu, Bull Lea, Count Fleet, Princequillo, Mark-Ye-Well, Hasty Road, Turn-to, Arctic Prince, Heliopolis, Our Babu, Eight Thirty, War Admiral, Royal Serenade, Helioscope, Nas-rullah, Nashua, Aureole, etc. This listing gives the buyers an opportunity to buy yearlings by American or imported sires as well as individuals by sires who are standing in England, Ireland and France. AAA With the Virginia two-day yearling tour scheduled for June 27 and 28, plans are well along for what will be the third annual tour. On May 13, Mrs. George P. Greenhalgh will entertain the Virginia consignors and at that time the entire group will have an opportunity to discuss further the forthcoming yearling tour. The annual meeting of the Virginia Thoroughbred Association has been changed to May 22 but will still be held at the Middleburg Community Center. Following the luncheon, Marshall Cassidy, executive secretary and assistant treasurer of The Jockey Club, will address the members of the Virginia Thoroughbred Association. C. M. Baxters Barracks Farm near Charlottesville not only has continued to improve its broodmare band but has added to their number since this farm sent its first consignment to the Saratoga sales. This year there will be 11 mares bred, four of whom are on the other side of the "pond". Rose of Africa, a bay mare foaled in 1948 by Nearco out of the Dastur matron Dodoma, produced a filly this year by Aureole and is now in Italy where she visits the court of Ribot. The Goyama mare, Golden Marie, Is booked to Alycidon this year. A new member in the group abroad is Subtle Difference, a brown mare foaled in 1948 by Admirals Walk, out of ■ ] ] 1 • "~ ~ ~ ~ —— —— — ~~~ ■" ~ ■" ■" ~ ~ ~~~ Riverside, she by Wyndham. Winner of five races including the Katheryn Howard Stakes at Hurst Park and the Clayton Handicap Stakes at Newmarket, Suble Difference was in foal to Court Martial at the time she was sold at the Newmarket December Sales last year. She dropped a filly to this cover and has been sent to Gilltown Stud where she is booked to Palestine. The remaining mare is Gainsborough Lady, a bay mare foaled in 1946 by Donatello II. from Gainsborough Lass, by Gainsborough. This stakes winner is currently in foal to Palestine and her booking this year is to Tudor Minstrel. AAA - " In this country Mr. Baxter has seven mares. The imported matron Great Haste n. by Precipitation — Avena, by Bland-ford has been bred to Your Host. At Sagamore Farm is Greenway, another imported mare who is by Fairway out of the -Cri de Guerre mare, Laurel Wreath. Greenway had a filly by Citation this year and is booked to Native Dancer. Pin Stripe, a former member of the broodmare group owned by Lord Derby, is by Hyperion — Herringbone, by King Salmon. Predestined, a daughter of Stimulue out of Destiny Bay, she by Campfire, produced a colt this year by Hafiz n. and goes to Porterhouse. The Fair Trial — Ivy Grey mare, Golden Flower, was bred to Tudor Minstrel last year and then shipped to this country. She now has a filly foal by this sire and her booking this season is to Citation. The young mare, Errorless, a chestnut foaled in 1951 by Shut Out out of Bloodroot, is currently in foal to Bimelech and goes to Polynesian. Kuklakee Blue Swords — Insco Belle, by Insco is in foal to Alerted and after foaling, she will go to Hafiz II. It is very interesting to note that the first two starters by Our Babu won their initial outings, and more so because both of these winners are Virginia-breds. Con-stand Comment, bred by Stephen C. Clark, Jr., is out of Evening Sea by War Relic and she went into the winners circle at Laurel on April 7. Our Brook, a bay filly out of Minnow War Admiral was bred by Blue Ridge Farm and is now owned by Mrs. D. N. Lee. As is well known by pedigree pundits, both War Relic and War Admiral are sons of the great Man o War.
