Trainers Wife Injured When Thrown From Horse Mrs. Brown Rushed to Hospital After Hollywood Park Mishap HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 9. — Mrs. Barbara Brown, 39, wife of trainer Harris Brown of Florida, was seriously injured today when she was thrown from a horse she was exercising at Hollywood Park. Mrs. Brown was thrown when her mount, Okaye n., wheeled while being breezed on the main track during the wandrkout period, and it is believed she stiuck the rail. She was rushed to the Centinela Hospital in Inglewood where preliminary examination indicated that she suffered a broken pelvis and severe internal injuries. Mrs. Brown, who holds a trainers license in many eastern states and is one of the best known horsewomen of the east coast, recently came to California with her husband, who trains for Mrs. Tilyou Christopher of Miami and for other eastern thoroughbred owners. When she went out on the track with Okaye n. this morning, the horse was fractious and threw her near the half-mile pole in front of the dockers, stand. Her husband immediately sent out a pony boy asking her to let him bring the horse back to the barn, but she insisted on going through with the trial as planned. She started around the track with the horse and when he neared the eighth pole in the stretch he suddenly wheeled again and threw her for a second time. Clocker Pat Garrity, who had been timing Okaye n., said that momentarily his view was obscured by a hedge, but he believes she struck the rail. Ambulance attendants picked her up just inside the infield and she was rushed to the emergency ward of the Centinela Hospital within a few minutes after the accident. The Browns permanent residence is 4110 Woodridge Road, Coconut Grove, Miami.
