Tri-State Stakes Closes For Nominations Monday HOMEWOOD, 111., May 9.— Racing secretary Charles J. McLennan today reminded horsemen that nominations to the 5,000 added Tri-State Stakes, opening-day feature for Balmorals spring: meeting: at Washington Park on May 18, close at midnight Monday, May 11. The Tri-State, carded for the first time, is at 6 furlongs for three-year-olds and honors the new Tri-State Tollway, which links the entire Chi-cagoland area directly with Washington Parks Halsted Street entrance. The new event is the first of 28 stakes to be run during the coordinated 97-day Arlington Park-Washington Park-Balmoral season, "which has a 42-day run at Washington Park through July 4, then winds up with 55 days at Arlington Park, through Labor day, September 7.
