Thurman Gammon Sends Out Two Ascot Winners Tallies of Par Wins, Miss Shea Put Trainer Into First-Place Tie By BOB HURLEY Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls", Ohio, May 9. — Owner-trainer Thurman Gammon sent out a pair of winners before a crowd of 8,400 today to move into a tie for leading trainer position with Canadian Fred Hannon. Par Wins carried the Collinsville, Illinois sportsmans red and god colors to a two-length victory in the opening race of the day and his Miss Shea reported home a half length in front two races later to boost Gammons total to 11 winners during the 32 days of racing at Ascot. Gammon finished in a dead heat with Stumpy Cranford for training honors in 1957 and has been a regular at Ascot for many seasons. Jockey Jimmy Clemens hustled Par Wins over the Ascot Course in :52% in the opener as the Phar Mon mare paid 3.20 for her third win over the distance at this meeting. Roily Reynolds gained his first winner of the meeting when he piloted L. S. Ober-holsers Atesa to a length and one-quarter score in the second race with the Daily Double worth 0.80. Atesa was timed in 1:48 for the mile and one-sixteenth and the Bold and Bad mare paid .20 in the straight pool.
