MASSAI was under light restraint while prompting the early pace, responded when called upon to take the lead leaving the backstretch, then held PLAY PILOT under pressure. The latter was forwardly placed throughout and lacked a sufficient response while lugging in slightly in the drive. PERDULARI0 saved ground while in front early, dueled briefly with the winner when challenged on the final turn and faltered. RED CHIEF was never a factor. PALISADE was through early. LONGUS drove between horses racing to the lead in the early stretch and held NOBLE SEL safe in the drive. The latter, closer than usual early, was taken to the outside for the drive, but could not gain on the winner in the final furlong. QUIZ BRIAR duelled with OLDHAM COUNTY for the early advantage, opened a clear lead leaving the final turn and weakened slightly. HONK saved ground to no avail. GYGIS was always far back. EXTENSION PLEASE raced to the lead in the opening furlong, established a clear advantage while saving ground on the turn and lasted over NATIVE SON while tiring. The latter moved with a rush on the turn to reach contention and was rapidly getting to the winner. TUNGSTENO, forced to race outside horses much of the way, could not get up. The latter was sent to the lead in the early stretch, then could not hold the winner while fighting it out gamely. STAYSAIL set the pace under pressure and weakened in the late stages. BATTLE NECK was forwardly placed and lacked a response. TRASGO rallied mildly in the early stretch and faltered. WESLEY SMILEY and INHERENT SELF were through early. CEDAR BROOK was sent up along the outside to take a slight lead in the early stretch, then was no match for the winner when challenged. NASRULLAH SWEEP was well placed throughout. and lacked a rally. CAROLINA JOY failed to respond when put to pressure. RARE RICE failed to reach contention. ALSTAR, shuffled back when THESPIS came in at the start, responded readily when called upon, wore down the leaders in midstretch and drew out under pressure. DAUBLEN was sent up to challenge after a half, took a slight advantage nearing the stretch and faltered. OLD LANGLEY, forced to steady when caught behind horses while rallying in the stretch, -got through along the rail, then could not threaten. THESPIS came over leaving the gate; bothering ALSTAR and CRISPI, set the pace for five furlongs and weakened late. SEA VOYAGE was well placed and weakened. TENDER MORSEL was always out of it.
