Gaga, Dam of Tom Fool, Succumbs After Foaling Death Believed Due to Internal Hemorrhage; Colt by Helioscope LEXINGTON, Ky„ May 9.— Duval A. Headleys aristocratic broodmare,. Gaga, dam of 1951 two-year-old champion and 1953 Horse of the Year, Tom* Fool, died at 3 a. m., Saturday morning at Headleys Manchester Farm after foaling a half brother, by Helioscope, to Tom Fool. Death was believed to have been due to an internal hemorrhage. The foal, a splendid, big brown colt, arrived about 8:30 oclock Friday night and was prized as the mare first colt foal since Tom Fool, who was by Menow. Gaga, who was by Bull Dog — Alpoise, by Equipoise, was 17 years old and also was the dam of the champion two-year-old filly of 1950, Aunt Ginny, her first foal, who was by Helioscope. She also was dam of the fillies, Gagetta, by Menow; New Years Eve, by Count Fleet, and the two-year-old Mid Pacific, by Polynesian. Headley bought Gaga as a yearling from A. C. Ernst and bred all her foals. Gaga was raced seven times at two, three and four years and placed in the Carroll Handicap at Pimlico. She was named after the then baby daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Headley. The two little girls were unable to pronounce the word, grandmother — saying "gaga."
