Estimated 8,000 Witness Spring Opener at Beulah Easy Wins by Fourdees and Ole Kel Make Up 9 Daily Double By A. L. SHIELDS Staff Correspondent BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 9. — W. J. Greens Fourdees captured the first race here today to usher in. the 19-day central Ohio spring meeting. Ridden by the capable Harrel Bolin, the nine-year-old daughter of Devil Diver— Darby Dama-zel was an easy four and a half lengths before J. Nashlunds Melt Away. Sue He Did, who runs in the colors of R. Flinchum, was third a little less than a length farther back. Fourdees, the second choice with the estimated crowd of 8,000, returned .60 after being timed in 1:12% for the 6 furlongs. J. V. Johnson and Hodges Ole Kel performed to expectations to take the second event under an unhurried ride by Eugene Ennis and was an easy six and a half lengths in advance of A. The three-year-old Boliver II. — Dixie Dinah gelding was not asked for an all out effort for the first half mile but was roused to action before the field of twelve three-year-old maidens reached the stretch, where he easily went to the front and drew off with every stride for an easy win. Space Ace, a four-year-old Deliberator — Very Lofty gelding, threw back two separate challenges in the one mile and 70 yards fourth race to come down to the wire a half length before Jimmy Bron-nenbergs determined Promenade. Armstrongs and Wooters Seasons Mark finished third another length and one-half back. Space Ace, who races in the interests of D. and V. Turner Jr., was a sharp factor from the start, raced the outsider Too Early into submission and then held back Promenade in the stretch run. Timed in 1:45 for the distance, the winner paid .80.
