High Percentage of Winning Favorites at Wheeling Meet WHEELING DOWNS, Wheeling, W. Va., ., May 9. — Formful racing continues to be e the order of things at Wheeling Downs as s statistics for the first 12 days of racing g reveal that 44.44 per cent of the races have e been won by favorites. During the first 12-night period there e were 99 races run with 45 choices showing g the way to their opponents for the exceptionally •_ high percentage shown. One of if the big nights for public choices was Saturday, ;_ May 2, when seven favorites finished d first during the nine races. Last Tuesday y and Wednesday six choices came down in n front each day on the eight-race cards. Another interesting fact was brought out by the figures as seven of the nine odds-on choices won their respective races for an average of 77.77 per cent. The shortest priced horse of the meeting was Lowill in the third race last Thursday, when she was bet down to 30 cents on the dollar and- won in each fashion to return .60. .80 and .60 across the board.
