Prop Prop Leads Leads .Pnut Pnut Vendor Vendor to to Finish; Finish; Kiss Kiss Me Me Kate, Kate, Nothirdchance Nothirdchance Upset Upset Constantm Entry Dominates Sprint Lincolns Toro Purse Run Over Heavy Strip; Bishop, Fogelson Send Out Doubles By J. SWEENEY GRANT Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., May 23.— Eugene Constantin, Jr.s, entry of Prop and Pnut Vendor encountered only slight difficulty in completely outclassing their rivals in this afternoons Toro Purse. With Don Scurlock in the irons, Props uncorked a convincing stretch rally to reach the end of the six-furlong event a neck before his stablemate and approximately eight and one-half lengths before his next closest opponent, the Shady Brook Farms Clevelander. Two and one-half lengths to the rear of Clevelander came M. A. and Roy Saffirs Dr. Ole Nelson, whereas the rest of the iield strung out. The Constantin duo returned .80, .40 and .80 across the board. Prop stepped the six furlongs of the journey over the heavy strip in a sparkling 1:12%. Diamond Lane Unseats Rider The start of the Toro was effected without undue delay, but immediately after the field left the barrier, Bernice Irvins Diamond Lane stumbled and unseated her rider, Kenneth Robertson. Fortunately, Diamond Lane was at the rear of the field at the time and as a result the rider was uninjured. Several strides from the gate, Pnut Vendor assumed a slight advantage over Countess In, French Admiral and Famous Shake. On the far turn, the leader dispelled repeated challenges from the Endovina and-Alesia miss and as the field swung into the home lane maintained a clear advantage. Nearing the fuflong marker, Prop moved up boldly on the outside and as the rest of the group gave every evidence of exhaustion, it became evident that the entry would have things their own way. Inside the stretch, Pnut Vendor continued gamely on the lead under the guidance of the veteran Georgie Smith. Prop, however, began to shorten his advantage with every stride. Under stern punishment as applied by Scurlock, Prop reached the lead during the concluding strides and gradually drew clear. - The others, including Clevelander and Countess In, were much used engaging Pnut Vendor for the early lead and had nothing left. Famous Shake turned in a rather dull performance, but in all fairness to the Ray Ankenbauer entry, it appeared as if he decidedly disliked the going. Following heavy rains which prevailed in this sector earlier in the week, the racing strip proper could be termed no better than heavy. The afternoon of sport, presented Continued on Page Thirty-Nine °| Prop-Pnut Vendor Entry. Finish One-Two in Toro Constantin Racers Take Lincoln Feature in Role of Public Choice Continued from Page One under rather brisk conditions, attracted 8,675 persons. Thoroughbreds from the units of the Lincoln, Nebr., sportsman, Ben jamin Fogel-son and the Anna, HI., horseman, William Hal Bishop, completely dominated the first portion of the eight-race program After Fogelsons Oatburner breezed to victory in the first race, Bishops Technicolor and Dasha accounted for the second and third dashes, respectively. In order to remain on even terms with his rival, Fogelson supervised the saddling of his four-year-old filly, Chicks Delight, who was returned the driving victress of the fourth. Cleverly rated by jockey Gerald Porch, Chicks Delight assumed command at the start and made every post thereafter a winning one to charge under the wire one and one-half lengths before John Simons Fair Porter. A length to the rear of the runner-up came G. R. Whites Royal Luck, who .closed with good courage to prevail over P. J. Valentis Seamans Pal by three parts of a length. Chicks Delight, in annexing her second score of the Chicago season, rewarded her numerous supporters .40 in the straight "tote" pool. The daughter of Shasta Pebble traversed her six furlong assignment in 1:14%.
