Michigan Racing Association Track Is All Set for Tomorrows Inaugural Card Shaffer, Haggarty, Leavitt 4 Complete Final Inspection „ Of Spacious Detroit Plant By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT, Mich., May 23.— There will be no shortage of suitable thoroughbred stock at the five-million Livonia course when the Michigan Racing Association inaugurates a 56-day meeting on Friday. Many prominent stables already are on the grounds at the huge Middlebelt and Schoolcraft Roads plant and other outfits are checking in hourly from Churchill Downs and Eastern racing centers. Included in the list of establishments ready for campaigning, at the spacious and correctly-appointed racing grounds are those of Mrs. Raymond Grundry, John Mc-Atee, Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffer, Mrs. Otto Neumann, George Haggarty John Hart, James Paddock, the G. and G. Stable, Adelard Lamoureux, Kenneth Noe and Henry Forrest. Practically all of these names are familiar to Motor City racing followers and excellent sport is to be presented during the 1951 season. President E. E. Dale Shaffer, executive vice-president George Haggarty, and general manager Robert Leavitt completed a last minute physical check of the entire MRA layout this morning. After a brief conference, Shaffer stated that everything is quite ready for the Friday opening day program. "We are in fine shape this season," said Shaffer. "We have a good class of horses, a top official staff, and our plant has been dressed up to the point where it not only compares favorably with older tracks, but surpasses most of them as far as spectator comfort is concerned." Kenneth Noe, one-time saddle star and in recent years a most successful trainer, arrived yesterday with the dozen thoroughr breds he intends to race at Livonia. Heading the Noe-conditioned unit is Carl Grahairis Fancy Flyer, victor here last season in the Michigan Mile Handicap and the Governors Handicap. During his 1950 campaign, Fancy Flyer, a six-year-old son of Sky Raider and Bellitas Babe, also annexed the Southland Handicap and won several other major engagements. While Fancy Flyer is rated the top performer in the Noe barn, owner Graham also is to be represented here by Byronic, Katydidit, Never In Doubt, Robin Red and Boss Broker. Katydidit recently beat a fast field at Churchill Downs. Joseph Mallias Is There and banada Red are in the Noe string, as well as Mrs. H. Allen Camp-• bells Blabbermouth and Pixey Sal, while H. J. Seppenfields Chow Line and Air Patrol round out the band. The latter racer was a double winner at Louisville. H. H. "Pete" Battle, veteran turfman, certainly will have a strong hand here this year. Included in the stable he is to race are Mrs. O. C. Neumanns Bully Boy, Edgey, Unble Bim, and the. handsome filly, Beauty Spot; vice-president Haggartys Dish of Tea, Old Sol, and Helwan; C. B. Shaffer, ms Blemish, Miss Candace Shaffers Blue Point, and Mrs. Shaffers Woe to Me, Scherzo, Arthur Itis, Creep Mousie, Best Of Breed, and Dogs Up. Jockey Darrell Madden is to do the riding for the Battle-trained establishment. James Paddock, Louisville patron, and the G. and G. Stable, maintained by I. A. Grissom and E. J. Grosfield, also are to have useful horses here this year. The Paddock and G. and G. outfits are conditioned by Vester R. Wright, and both are Detroit circuit regulars. Paddock is to have the following thoroughbreds at Livonia, Royal Tulip, Alphara, First Heir, Bonnie Donnie, Gallajaci, Belmont Beauty* Lucky Dog, Fancy Dream, Double Gift, Dustlight, Bold Poise, Lasting Way, and Lazieven, while the G. and G. unit includes Sheila Lou, Dear Tint, Sure Mac, Gay Liberty, Scotch Bim, Santa Clans, and Big Road, who recently visited the Churchill Downs winners circle. Shaffer recently announced that post time for the opening day program, as well as all Saturdays and holidays, will be 2:00 oclock, while regular week-day programs will get under way at 3:45 P. M.
