Sixty -Two Named For New Castle Top Members of Filly, Mare Ranks, Including Next Move, Entered in Delaware Stake STANTON, Del., May 23.— The 0,000 1 New Castle Handicap for fillies and mares, y which this season will become the richest . race offered by Delaware Park since the tracks inception in 1937, has attracted a sparkling ; list of 62 nominations. The number of eligibles announced today by racing secretary-handicapper « J. Gilbert Haus tops by three the total received for the 1950 J renewal. In an effort to elevate the status of the ] New Castle to championship and classic , proportions, Delaware Park this year has doubled, the added money value of the June 30 fixture and increased the distance ] from a mile and a sixteenth to a mile and ! a quarter. The event is expected to gross approximately 1,200. There are now only three 0,000 stakes in ■ the country for fillies and mares exclusively, i namely the New Castle, Arlington ; Parks Arlington Matron in July and Aqueducts i Beldame in the fall. The increased value and importance of the New Castle is particularly pleasing to breeders who long : have advocated more and bigger races for : fillies and mares. Class abounds in the 1951 nominations. . Among the candidates who have already won stakes this year are King Ranchs : Renew Firenze Handicap and Tilly Rose division of Prioress Stakes, Herman B. : Delmans How Kentucky Oaks , Wheatley Stables Antagonism Black Helen Handicap and Greentree Stables Ruddy division of Prioress Stakes. Prominent Candidates Others named for the newly endowed stake include Alfred G. Vanderbilts Next Move, cliampion three-year-old filly of 1950, and Sweet Talk; Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Adile, last years New Castle heroine; Springhill Farms Nell K., William Ewings Dark Favorite, Belair Studs Vulcania, Joe - "W. Browns Thelma Berger, winner of the Louisiana Handicap, among other events; Cary C. Boshamers Carolina Queen, Fox-catcher Farms Gaffery, H. P. Headleys Aegina a"nd Lithe, W. M. Jeffords Kiss Me Kate, Mrs. E. duPont Weirs Merry Xmas and other good winners. The New Castle will come at an ideal time for bringing together titular aspirants of the f illy-and-mare ranks, since 16 stakes around the country for either the three-year-old female flyers or for both fillies and mares will have been decided prior to June 30.
