Colonial National Invitation Hosts Fields of 42 Top Pros FORT WORTH, Texas, May 23 UP.— A hand-picked field of 42 players opens the summer golf swing here tomorrow without an outstanding favorite to take the Colonial National Invitation Tournament crown which Slammin Sam Snead puts on the line. - The tight-lipped mountaineers main opposition, however, was expected to come from Masters and National Open Champion Ben Hogan, who will be playing over his home course; leading money winner Lloyd Mangrum of Chicago, and Jim Fer-rier, the transplanted Australian whose earnings this year are right behind Man-grums. In the big scramble for the ,000 top money, there was little doubt that Colonials rugged par 70 layout would be severe test for the select field. Only six times in the four previous tournaments has par been bested in the 72-hole distance, and three of those performances were by Hogan, a two-times champion in the Colonial. _ t i i b - r r e " a _ - s
