King Clover and Joey Boy To Resume Rivalry Today Pair Staged Head-and-Head Duel In Last With Former Getting Nod GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 23. — Garden State Park tomorrow offers a double-feature program, with a small band of the better middle-distance runners active at this meeting assuming the nominal sixth race featured position, to be followed by a one mile and a sixteenth race for three-year-olds, which brings out the two promising Jersey Stakes eligibles, Cary C. Boshamers King Clover, and Joseph Gavegnanos Joey Boy. Seven seasoned performers will meet in the first event, the Rotary Purse, headed by Mrs. E. H. Ellison, Jr.s Sun Bahrain. T. P. Morgans Crown Me, who was second in Sun Bahrains winning race two weeks ago, will again take up the challenge and is again highweighted in the field with 112 pounds. Sun Braham, who finished fourth in the Valley Forge Handicap in his prior effort, will have 116 pounds up, an increase of five pounds, but the manner of his triumph over Crown Me was decisive and he will be a heavy favorite tomorrow. The others in this race are S. Greenfields High Trend, coming up fresh from two sprint efforts and considered dangerous; King Ranchs Energetic; Joseph Gavegnanos Directoire, and Jeff-Lynn Stables Cutting Edge, all recent winners, and Woodland Farms Picture Card. The crowd will be anticipating the return match of King Clover and Joey Boy with the most enthusiasm, however, and they appear to completely dominate the other eight sophomores named to the Cumberland Purse. F. A. Bonsais Mully S. was a winner over good company a couple of weeks ago in Maryland and could provide an upset, as could Savoy Stables Blue Speed, who won his last here at a sprint, but the others seem overmatched. King Clover, who finished thirteenth in the Kentucky Derby, took the decision over Joey Boy in their meeting here on May 15, but the majority will be expecting a reversal tomorrow. The contest was fought out head and head throughout the entire one mile and a sixteenth between this pair, with King Clover only gaining the nod by a head in the last yards while profiting from a nine-pound advantage in the weights. The assignments are turned about for the Cumberlandj with King Clover -this time to tote the top burden of 122 pounds, and Joey Boy to carry 119. This, plus the fact that Joey Boy was making his first attempt over a distance of ground in his last, will likely persuade the public to make him a heavy favorite. They are both imposed with 112 pounds in the Jersey Stakes weights released today. King Clover, in the opinion of his rider Frank Bone, is capable of running an excellent race at any distance and in any company, but only if he feels like it. Joey Boy captured the fancy of local observers by two smashing sprint triumphs for his first, pair of races this year, and then confirmed their decision, although beaten, by his determined duel with King Clover.
