. , - .. Peabody Memorial Prep Lures Nine ROYAL MUSTANG — Heads the Peabody Memorial Prep at Hgmewood today. Royal Mustang Is Lincoln Favorite Wilson Colt Is Making First Start Since Second in Derby; Bernwood Seen Chief Threat WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., May 23— Nine formidable three-year-olds were named to contest the Peabody Memorial Prep Purse, nominal attraction on to-mdrrows program. With but one exception, each entrant in the one mile event is named for the forthcoming Peabody Memorial Stakes, and the outcome of tomorrows race should have a decided effect on the eventual settlement of the 5,000 added, sophomore attraction. Under the allowance conditions of the "Prep," Mrs. Fred Sharpes Kings Hope will answer the bugle under the top impost of 116 pounds. However, the wagering is certain to center upon Sam E. Wilson, Jr.s, Royal Mustang and Brownell Combs Bern-wood. Comprising the remainder of the group are Mrs. J. P. Keezeks Abbe Sting, John Marschs Brevite, Red Top Farms Stop Gap, Mrs. Nellie M. Mikels False, Brown Hotel Stables The Gink, and Andy B. W., owned by the combined interests of Aarons and Hokins. The Gink is the only non-eligible for the Peabody, Memorial. Royal Mustang, who probably came forth with the best race of his career when he placed second to J. J. Amiels Count Turf in the seventy-seventh running of the Kentucky Derby, has compiled an enviable record this year. Following his two-year-old tenure, in which he registered four successes, the Wilson colt returned to actual competition early in the Hialeah season and was defeated a scant nose by Elixir in the Bahamas Handicap. In his next start he turned back the highly regarded Battle Morn in impressive fashion. Upon his arrival in Kentucky, Royal Mustang placed third in the Blue Grass Stakes but was awarded second money through Sonics disqualification. His placing in the "Run for the Roses" indeed was a creditable feat and installed the son of Easy Mon and Penroyal as one of the more prominent contenders for future leading three-year-old events. Bernwood Won at Downs Last Out Bernwood, fashionably-bred product of Bernwood— Miss Dogwood, ran in the Derby Trial at Churchill Downs but was forced to by-pass the Derby itself. Bernr wood later scored a victory against formidable rivals at the Louisville course previous to his arrival here. Brevite did not race as a two-year-old, but has compiled a creditable record thus far this season. In his initial start of his career at Hialeah the Marsch colorbearer won by five lengths. He scored another success at that track and added an additional triumph at Gulfstream Park before coming north. Brevite was among the "also rans" in the Kentucky Derby trial. Abbe Sting and Kings Hope were unsuccessful in the Derby Trial. Both have displayed high speed in local workouts and must be regarded dangerous should they choose to come forth with their best efforts. False and Stop Gap, prior to arrival in Chicago, were campaigned at Oaklawn Park. Both recorded victories oyer the Hot Springs strip. At Sportsmans Park False made three trips postward and was returned the winner on one occasion. Stop Gap was seen under colors earlier this meeting and finished fourth to a competent band of sprinters, including Ruth-red, Mais Boy, and Graham. The Gink and Andy B. W. are the lightly regarded members of the contemplated starting field. The former scored one sus-cess during his Churchill Downs campaign, but perhaps against less reputable opponents than against whom he is asking to face tomorrow. AndyB. W. has been unsuccessful in a limited 1951 season. Tomorrows Lincoln Fields program contains nine races, one of which is for the benefit of the Chicago Boys Club. This organization is a non-sectarian city-wide project with 10 clubs in the most congested areas of the Windy City. Post time for the first race will remain at the usual 2:00 P. M., Central Daylight Time.
