Of the six top money winners of the turf, the subscriptions for the Cup, which will have its renewal over a mile and a quarter on July 14, include four, Calumet Farms Citation, Coaltown and Bewitch, and King and Luell-witz Moonrush. Included among the nominations are 20 winners of more than 100 stakes, assuring another brilliant renewal of this fixture which this summer will be having its twelfth running. The Gold Cup, which annually draws the attention of racing fans everywhere, had its greatest running last year when Noor defeated a spectacular field that included Hill Prince, Palestinian, Great Circle, Next Move, Ponder, Assault and On Trust. Top Four Stables Nominate Of the countrys leading stables in earnings this year, the Gold Cup has received nominations from the top four— King fe Luellwitz, Calumet Farm, the Yolo Stable, and the Brookmeade Stable. The latter establishment topped the nations money earners last year to end the four-year reign of Calumet. Great interest in the Gold Cup will center on Moonrush and Citation. Moonrush at this time* is the greatest money-winning thoroughbred in the country for 1951 and, with victories since January 1 in the San_ Pasqual, the Santa Anita Handicap, and the Bay Meadows Handicap and the Golden State Breeders Handicap, stands out as the current American handicap king. Citation, «in one mighty effort in the Gold Cup, can become the first race horse in history to take down one million or more dollars in purses. His earnings up to this time amount to 39,060. Brookmeade Stable, who will soon ship a division here from New York, is represented on the list of Gold Cup nominations by Greek; Ship, its principal money winner last year, Chains, and But Why Not. Also named for the Gold Cup were Great Circle, who won the Santa Anita Maturity last winter for the Yolo Stable, and T. P. Morgans Lotowhite, who was second in the same stake.
