Call Over Back in Top Form at Garden State Jimmy Stout, Fernando Fernandez Astride Three Winners Apiece By WILLIAM PHILLIPS . Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 23. — Flying through a virtual sea of slop, Bedford Stables Call Over redeemed his standing as a heavy favorite in the featured six-furlong Reciprocity Purse, and drove to the end of the six furlongs with an evenly maintained advantage of one length over John L. McKnights Mr. Buster. Brookfield Farms Istan held on surprisingly well after being unable to set the pace for more than three furlongs, and lasted to be third, two lengths behind Mr. Buster and a similar margin clear of the others in the field of eight. Jersey-born "Gentleman" Jimmy Stout was making it three victories on the program for the second afternoon in succession astride Call Over. The four-year-old Devil Diver colt, who has been racing in stakes competition and won the Rowe Memorial this spring at Bowie, splashed the required distance over a sloppy track with a slipr pery," but firm bottom, in 1:12%. He paid .00. Fernando Fernandez, the arch rival of Jimmy Stout for the riding honors at this meeting, also shared in the spotlight when he brought home the Daily Double winners in the first two races and Wright Angle in the seventh. The Cuban-born veteran scored with Ogden Phipps Lady Advocate, 1.40 winner of the first event, and Dan-Continued on Page Thirty-Nine 1 ; , ; Call Over Back in Top Form at Garden State Jimmy Stout, Fernando Fernandez Astride Three Winners Apiece Continued from Pane One ny Sheas Scapulas, who returned 6.40 in capturing the second. The combination was worth 2.40 in the Daily Double. Stout tallied his previous victories in the third race, astride George D. Wideners St. Stefana, and with Savoy Stables Top Admiral in the fifth. Both mounts were favored by the crowd of 13,768, paying .00 and .20, respectively. Only light and occasional showers fell during the morning and early afternoon, but it turned into a steady rain after the second race, making the track termed officially sloppy for the running of the third. The Reciprocity field left the gate as a compact group, but J. A. Pallantes Larry A. and Palatine Stables Yes You did not quickly adapt themselves to the wet footing and dropped back early. Istan dashed to the front from the inside, but was quickly challenged by the winner, with Mr. Buster ranging up on the outside of him to loom a threat. Carolina Miss, who has had two good races here, gave up the idea early when unable to stay with the top trio and turned in a disappointing effort. Call Over evenly maintained his speed after reaching the front, although he was" allowed to drift a bit wide in the stretch drive while seeking the best portion of the track, and at the same time forcing Mr. Buster also to go to the outside. Mr. Buster made a brief bid that appeared dangerous in the early stretch, but then was unable to carry the challenge and was just holding his own at the finish.
