Scrutinized Easily Best in Cudgeller Beats Blue Amber -By Four Lengths GeldingTotes Buddah Stable Banner to Popular Tally at Washington on Muddy Track WASHINGTON, PARK, Homewood, 111., June 10. — An odds-on favorite won the Cudgeller Purse, chief race here this afternoon, when Scrutinized, from the Buddah Stable and ridden by Steve Brooks, made a show of his seven rivals. The five-year-old, a fine mud horse, scored by four lengths, with Blue Amber, Second, and Nirgal Lad, third. Scrutinized, fourth favorite of the day to show the way home, paid .60 in winning the six-furlong race. Cool murky weather prevailed today, but a crowd of 7,581 braved the elements to turn out for the eight events. The racing strip was deep in mud. Jay Jay Gee, an Illinois-bred, set out to make the pace in the Cudgeller and did a good job of it for a half-mile, but Scrutinized was always within range. Nearing the stretch turn the Buddah racer moved up in resolute fashion and soon after entering the stretch had the situation well in hand. He was not threatened by Blue Amber coming to the end. The race marked the first score for scrutinized- in five starts this year, but he has been racing for the most part in better company. Ten Maidens in Opener The largest field of the afternoon came out for the first race when 10 maiden two-year-olds paraded. Moose Sign, the favorite ridden by apprentice John Soto, was the one to graduate and did so in convincing fashion, winning by eight lengths. It was his third start and he performed in the silks of Roscoe Goose. Another public choice rewarded in the second when Spiriam, sporting the colors of Clifford Lussky, finished first in a field of eight three-year-olds. Spiriam, ridden by apprentice Larry Gilligah, led throughout to score over Zipper Miss. The distance was six furlongs and the Daily Double paid 5.00. John Ralph Adams, substituting for his father John Adams, who cancelled his engagements following the running of the second race, rode Petes Folly to victory over five others in the third. Olympias Ace, the favorite, went wide on the stretch turn while leading, and Petes Folly slipped through next the rail. The colt was all out to trim the Hooper racer at the end of the five and a half furlongs dash, however. It was a maiden two-year-old affair and Petes Folly raced for Miss Verdis Havard. Mrs. Sweenie, the favorite in the fourth, flattered by showing the way in the early stages of that six furlongs dash, but Tee J. H. emerged victorious, with Mrs. Sweenie ending up in fourth place. Al Popara rode the winner, who paid 4.40. The third "chalk" of the day clicked in the fifth when Mighty Moment, owned by Mrs. Dorothy Wagner, led all the way to tally an easy score. Job Dean Jessop was up and he rode with confidence in the six furlongs events. Tall Iris, the second chice, finished secnd, and Babys Pal, the third choice, was third.
