Oil Painting Makes Good In Odds-on Favorite Role Coasts to Belmont Park Score; Goulash in Maiden Accounting BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 10. — Confidently ridden by Headley Wobdhouse, Mrs. Joe Goodwins Oil Painting coasted to a popular tally in the featured Glen Cove Purse today, reaching the end of the six furlongs two and a half lengths before W. M. Wickhams Where Are We. It was another length and a half back to Bee Gee Farms Petal, who nosed out Wickhams Winning Stride for third honors. Heavily favored by the crowd of 19,942 that enjoyed pleasant sunny weather, Oil Painting returned .60 after coasting the six furlongs in 1:11%. A half brother to last years Kentucky Derby winner, Goulash, proved to be something good -to eat in the fourth race, carry ing Harry LaMontagnes silks to a two and a half length score over Clearwater Stables Cavort. Goulash, who was making his second start, is a gelded son of Revoked and is the last foal from Koubis, by Mahmoud, who is now dead. He required 1:12% for the six furlongs and paid .30. In the feature, Miss Weesie shot out of the gate and promptly opened a wide lead, but Woodhouse didnt attempt to rush Oil Painting in pursuit, allowing the daughter of Papa Redbird to move up steadily and smoothly, joining the leader on the turn for home, then drawing away with the greatest of ease. Once headed, Miss Weesie had enough for the - day and Where Are We, Petal, Winning Stride and -Roman Warbler all swept past her in the stretch. Miss Weesie only escaped last place by a head over Kitty Lightner. Jack C. Pollards Ever Bright was scratched by the stewards during the post parade, on the recommendation of the track veterinarian. -The filly was obviously sore coming on the track*. r «
