This will be the ninety-sixth running of the Oiippnc Plafp •spvpnt.v-fnnrfVi nnrt final j I running at Woodbine. Seventeen top-flight Canadian-bred sophomores are slated to compete for the coveted honors on this notable occasion. They will race over a testing mile and a furlong journey for a gross purse of 2,645, with a net of 5,-270 to the winner, if 17 answer tiie bugle. The owner of the. winner will receive, in ward of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, racing fans to a greater degree than ever before and as a result a record attendance This years field has caught the fancy of addition, 50 guineas, the time-honored is in prospect. It is a wide-open race with the hazards of racing luck heightened due to the unwieldly line-up. Stafford Farms entry of Senator Jim and Bernford have earned the post of favoritism by virtue of impressive performances in the Plate Trials. Senator Jim finished second in a sprint c:nd won a mile and 70 yards divi--sion of the Trial. He is, fortunately, an able performer on any type of racing strip and he has been stamped as a confirmed rounte runner. His stablemate Bernford was a sprint division, finished third in the threat. Owner Jack Stafford has reasonable hope for his f-rst victory in the Queens Plate. Ace Marine Victor in Two Trials Larkin Maloneys Ace Marine, a hardhitting colt who won divisions of the Plate Trial at six furlongs and a mile and 70 yards, will be second choice, bidding for equal support with the Stafford entry." The compact son of Ace Admiral — Mawrine is recognized as an eager, willing performer, but with a "Nashua tendency" to give only as much as required to meet or repel a challenge. His early speed may serve advantageously in the big field. James Fairs Fairator and W. A- Mof-iatts Loyalist are pegged about level on jivagering scale. They have been shuffled up and down in the futures, following training trials and Plate Trials. Fairator finished second in two Trials, Loyalist was twice fourth. They have support on the premise that they will be better suited going nine furlongs. A victory for Mrs. Russell Grauls Baffin Bay would occasion a notable first on the basis that the Plate has never been won by a Quebec owner. Montreals Mrs. Graul and her Quebec-bred filly present a strong threat. Hope for the first Western Canada victory rests with Silver Spat, owned by Andrew Adams fo Winnipeg, and Great West, the able representative of Winnipegs Mrs. Dan Kennedy. They rank well up with the leading contenders. Silver Spat won a mile and 70 yards division of the Plate Trial and Great West finished third in a sprint division. E. P. Taylor bids for his fourth Queens Plate with Windermere, a colt with somewhat less claim to recognition than his predecessors in the Taylor stable. However, his known liking for the longer distance places the Plate within his reach. Mrs. E. P. Taylors colors will be carried by the filly, Merry Life. Somewhere among the others in the field there may be a spark of latent talent which could be fired by the heat of competition to cause and upset.
