Mister Black returns to competition after having been idle for a brief spell due to a slight injury. He proved to be back in shape when he took a satisfactory workout on the grass Thursday. He was very impressive in equalling the track record for one and one-eighth miles on the turf in winning the Continental, in which Blue Choir was third; Hasseyampa, fourth; Salmon Peter, fifth; and Sea O Erin, seventh. Mister Black registered by three and one-half lengths from Streaking. Five-Time Stake Winner in 1955 Although Sea O Erin has taken five stakes this season, he has never shown a partiality for grass racing. He had speed in the Continental but stopped badly. One week later he came back with an excellent effort to take the Citation, one mile on the main track, by four lengths. The Balmoral entrants behind him were Two Fisted, who was second; Smoke Screen, who finished 10th; Hasseyampa, who was 12th, and Wise Margin, who was 13th and last. His best grass effort was fourth back of Cascanuez in the Bougainvillea in Florida. Wise Margins last effort was far from his best. This will mark his first grass track essay. Prior to being shipped to Washington Park, Wise Margin finished third back of Helioscope and Social Outcast in the Massachusetts Handicap. He won the Letellier Handicap at the Fair Grounds and the Plymouth Rock Handicap at Suffolk Downs before that. Cascanuez comes to Chicagoland fresh from a good second back of Maharajah in the Macomber Memorial at Suffolk Downs. This will -be the veteran runners first appearance here. His race in the Bougainvillea, in Florida, was a good one. County Clare was ninth in that affair in which Cascanuez was the favorite and carried 122 pounds for the mile and three-sixteenths distance; County Clare has but 113, and Sea O Erin, 113. He was later unplaced in the mile and a half Hialeah Turf Handicap, but was favored over Stan, the 1954 grass champion, who won the event.
