TROTTER— Diagonally gaited hcrse. Moves with a high-stepping, straight ahead gait with left front and right hind legs moving forward in unison. The trotter usually wears a heavier shoe than a pacer average: 8 oz.; the length of his front toe is usually longer 3%"-3%"; and his angle that formed by the front of the foot and the sole of the foot is usually a little more acute 46-48 degrees. The trotter is generally shod "flat" in front; that is, he usually wears level shoes, and usually wears a swedge shoe a creased shce which provides traction when the horses hind foot hits the ground behind.
