Gombos Says Hes Very Happy With River Downs Operation COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 10.— Zolton Gombos, chairman of the State Racing Commission today said he is "very hap*py" with the new operation at River Downs. The Cincinnati track is now operated by an organization headed by Leon Slavin, Kalamazoo, Mich., sportsman. Only yesterday, River Downs was admitted to membership in the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of the United States. Gombos said he recently visited the Ohio River course and that "I am unable to describe the difference in the management and operation of the track." The commission chairman said that he had interrogated a number of horsemen, whom he did not identify, and that they too were "much happier with the new management." . Gombos did not elaborate on his state- ments and he did not indicate whether he was speaking only for himself or the entire commission. Regarding the "new deal" at Hamilton, Gombos commented: "I believe any change at Hamilton would be for the better." William F. Snyder, Cleveland attorney, recently appeared before the board and identified himself as the "sole owner" of the lease to operate the Butler County oval if or the next three years. » s « s * » ? rr * - i
