Last Renewal at Old Track The Queens Plate will be run at Woodbine Saturday and that will be the last renewal at the grand old track as a new one is being built which will be one of the showplaces of the North American continent. This race has been run since 1860 for three-year-olds and, like the Belmont, it has a history that would make absorbing reading if put in book form. When in Toronto last week end, Colonel Marshall, president of the Ontario Jockey Club, told this writer he would like to see such a book written. We might say that he is the man who should write it, for he goes a long way back in Woodbine history. This writer is not familiar with the horses who will start in the Queens Plate, but we saw Senator Jim win a Plate Trial last week and he impressed us as the one they will all have to beat. As usual, Queen Elizabeth will make a gift of 50 guineas . for this event. In 1902, after the death of Queen Victoria, Canadas greatest race became the Kings Plate and retained that title until the ascension of Queen Elizabeth to the throne in 1952.
