Eds Eds Day Day in in Narrow Narrow Arlington Arlington Score; Score; Hilarious Hilarious Turns Turns Back Back Bobby Bobby Brocato Brocato Has Head Margin In Summer Festival Huntley Runner Repeats in Aqueduct Feature; Squared Away Loses Place by Neck By BOB HORWOOD Staff Correspondent AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 23. Again leading throughout the six furlongs, but standing a furious drive all the way, W. L. Huntleys Hilarious midly surprised the small crowd of 16,629 by winning the featured Summer Festival Handicap by a head over Joe W. Browns Bobby Brocato. Mrs. Jan Burkes Squared Away was only a neck farther back, coming from behind for possibly the first time in his long career, -while Maine Chance Farms Jet Action was two lengths out of the money. The field was completed by Brookfield Farms New Jersey invader, I Appeal, who tired badly. Equals Previous Winning Time Ted Atkinson rode Hilarious, who was scoring his second straight and paid 2.70 and stepped the six furlongs in 1:11, exactly the same time as in his winning race on Saturday. This, however, was a much "bigger" race as Hilarious had to withstand repeated challenges by I Appeal, Squared Away and Bobby Brocato and was never able to get more than a half length away from his closest rival. After the race Aqueducts president, Cyrus S. Jullien presented a silver tray, to trainer "Skippy" Shapoff, who represented the Floridian Huntley, while jockey Atkinson was photo-Continued on Page Forty-Nine Eds Day Narrow Winner In Feature at Arlington Noses Out Brachs Admiral and By Zeus Under Calumet Banner Continued from Page One energetic handling of jockey Dave Gorman and carried 119 pounds, equal top weight under the conditions with By Zeus. The race was a sizzler from the begin- ning as Mr. Paradise was able to take a short lead over Eds Day and sped the first quarter in :22 Awhile hugging the rail. The two leaders came itno the home lane on almost equal terms and when asked for speed Eds Day inched past the early pacemaker to gain command by a half-length at the furlong marker. Mr. Paradise was not done when headed and hung on with determination and at this juncture Brachs Admiral, By Zeus, and Mon-Pharo all ranged up quickly. Eds Pride had to deliver his best at the urging of Gorman to retain his narrow margin at the end as Brachs Admiral, now between horses, just failed to make it and j By Zeus, on the outside, closed with keen speed. Mr. Paradise," too, down on the inside, was still holding on gamely to finish a. close fourth. The favorite won the opening race when Dotty Noble trimmed a large band of maiden two-year-old fillies. Jocky Dave Erb reserved Dotty Noble well back of the pace to the stretch turn, then called on her and she responded nobly to cut down Lilac Times five-length advantage. The distance was five and one-half furlongs. The Daily Double paid 5.40 when Mrs. Sweenie, after many attempts, finally made good in the second. The three-year-old filly led all the way with Sixty Two finishing second and Walkers Branch, the favorite, taking third money. Ronnie Baldwin rode teh winner. Mark L., a first time starter, was a short priced choice over a large band of maiden three-year-olds in the third. He led in the first part but tired after being collared by Tipoquill in the stretch and finished fourth. Tipoquill, with J. Ralph Adams up, was the winner over Hedgewood Miss. Pauls Pal enabled jockey Robert Chlo-pek to win his first race of the meeting whne he clicked over a large field in the fourth with Super Sue, the favorite, racing fo second place, while Teddys Image saved ground on the last turn in the fifth to take that affair from Next Option and Bully Bolero, who finished in a dead-heat for second place.
