i Georgetown 7Chase As Special Today Delawares 0,000 Event to Precede Regular Card by 45 Minutes; Shipboard sEntered DELAY ARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 23. For the second time in as many seasons, the Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association will offer a jumping stake as a special, no-wagering affair, to precede by 45 mirrtrtes the regular Friday program of eight flat races. The fixture, the 0,000 added Georgetown Handicap, will be contested over the regular course, rather than the heretofore used exacting stakes course. Last years Indian River Cap was run under similar conditions. Tomorrows event of about two miles, ovc" !5 obstacles, will carry a gross purse of 3,120, with the owner of the winner to receive ,560. Entered overnight, with their respective weights, are the following: Shipboard, who races for Mrs. Marion du-Pon4- Scotts Montpelier, and Manton B. Metcalf, Jrs., eaupre, 162 and and 140, respectively; Ogden Phipps Ancestor, 148; Lazy F Ranchs Coveted, 140; Lawrence R. Troianos Curl Joe, 138, and Mill River Stables Monkey Wrench, 130 pounds. Were there to be wagering on the Georgetown, trainer Ray Woolfes coupling of Shipboard and Beaupre would be a prohibitive choice, with the former considered by many to be the outstanding steeplechase development of recent seasons. During the current term, the son of Battleship has accounted for the Corinthian and Meadow Brook Handicaps, which, is reason enough for his topheavy burden against the caliber he meets tomorrow. Concedes Up to" 32 Pounds The others in the Georgetown have shown nothing to suggest that they are capable of giving Shipboard a race, even with the chunks of weight they are receiving under the arrangements. Shipboard will be giving from 14 to 32 pounds to his rivals and should he be successful under 162 pounds, he will become the first leaper to successfully compete under more than 160 pounds, the package carried by Gay Charles in 1939. Looking forward to Saturdays running of the 5,000 added New Castle Stakes, we see that three members of the prospective field trained during the morning hours today. George A. Cavanaughs Blue Violin, who was lown here from Chicago after having won the Honeymoon, was sent a handy six furlongs in 1:14, following which trainer John T. Kermath expressed complete satisfaction with his charge. Her fractions were :24and and :48. Bohemia Stables Maid of Flight, who was second to Cerise Reine at six furlongs in her lone appearance this year, traveled seven furlongs in 1:28 breezing, with a final furlong of :lZVs. Darby Dan Farms Clear Dawn, who is a scheduled starter despite a rather poor showing" in Monmouths Regret Handicap last Saturday, was breezed six panels in 1:15. The only other late development in the race was the announcement from the Bert Mulholland-trained stable to the effect that" Jack Westrope had been engaged to handle Mrs. George D. Wideners Evening Out. This miss returned to good form last week with a victory in the Regret.
