w ; - 1 KH I Weighing In By Evan Shipman Getthere Jack Wins Tremont in Tussle Little Colt Has Fine, Consistent Record Hambletonian Candidates Show Swift Mile AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 23. While Pollys Jet, considered the best of the current juvenile crop, was hardly troubled by the mediocre competition he w encountered encountered in in Delaware Delaware Parks Parks ; - 1 encountered encountered in in Delaware Delaware Parks Parks Christiana- Stakes, the chestnut Polynesian colts sternest rival for honors so far, the Lily-Ann Stables little warrior, Getthere Jack, was achieving a much more significant score here at Aqueduct in a good renewal of the Tremont Stakes, the half dozen colts who opposed the Tremont winner including several with valid pretentions to quality. Both Pollys Jet and and Getthere Getthere Jack Jack won won by by "open open KH I and and Getthere Getthere Jack Jack won won by by "open open -daylight," but there was nothing listless about the tussle Aqueduct homestretch. When the through the long Bimelech geldings usual jockey, Hedley Woodhouse, finally degaged himself from his pursuers, thanks to intermittent but strong reminders with the whip, the trim, busy little fellow knew he had been in a, horse race. Although the Carrara Marble colt. Bob-O Bob, emerged from the Tremont with only third money to his credit, it was he who assumed the real burden of testing the odds-on choice, and he gave the favorites many backers several decidedly anxious moments before he eventually tossed in the sponge. Getthefe Jack is a quick, handy sort, and Woodhouse lost no time m bouncing him right to tha front, while Bob McLauglilm sent to the post regarded Bob-O-Bob, had the lightly in excellent condition, right at the leader, plaguing him all the way. As they looped for home this pair I well detached from the others, it was Getthere Jack along the rail and Bob-O-Bob on the outside. As we in the stands viewed the struggle, the colts coming right toward us, it appeared as if Bob-O-Bob had drawn level with the leader at the, three-sixteenths pole, but, as it turned out, this must have been an illusion. At that point, Bob-O-Bob suddenly ducked m toward the rail. Simultaneously, Getthere Jack came out, but there was no interference, and Getthere Jack must have been clear of his rival at the time of the incident. Lily-Ann Warrior Conceded Weight Hustled for the entire trip as he had to be, Getthere Jacks time of l:05ys for the five and a half furlongs of the Tremont constituted a highly creditable performance, and he had zipped off the initial five panels in -58 just about the same brand of speed that Pollys Jet was showing down at Wilmington on a strip this here at Aqueduct. that is probably more "glib" than It should also be mentioned that, due to the Tremonts conditions, Getthere Jack was conceding six pounds to both Eiffel Blue and Bob-O-Bob, those in the field who picked up an identical 122 pounds to Getthere Jacks package Jean Baptiste and the youthful winner, Smooth Stride unable to keep up.. Summing exceedingly successful career, Get-there up his brief but Jack, a product of Whitney Stones Morven Stud near Charlottesville, Va., has now started nine times, winning seven races of which three have been stakes. His sole dull showing was when shipped to Suffolk State Kindergarten, a race that on Downs for the Bay yesterdays convincing evidence, you can completely disregard. In the paddock before the Tremont running, the field was closely examined, and the seven two-year-olds were of widely varying types. Getthere Jack is a closely knit, compact model, and precocity stands out all over him. His ankles may be a possible danger spot, and the length of pastern is also slightly suspicious. and business-like colt for as This is a thoroughly game far as he can go. but we admit to wondering whether Getthere Jack will care much for distances beyond six furlongs. In contrast to this trim little colt, the Youthful winner, Smooth Stride, is a "heavily topped" chestnut one who will eventually develop into a horse of commanding physique. He came out yesterday with bandages in front, the implication to our mind beins that Smooth Strides under-pinning is severely taxed-by his robust, even heavy, body. Reneged, a son of Revoked who set a track and world mark down the Wid-ener chute recently, is also an individual of considerable size and scope. This one, however, is much rangier than Smooth Stride, and he looks to stand now about 16.1, a frame that suggests he be given time to "grow up to himself," so to speak. Gettherd Jack was a cool customer as he was saddled and walked under the shed, but several of the others, particularly Reneged, were "broken out," showing signs of pre-race nervousness and tension. Something Special Shows Good Speed Several interesting Hambletonian candidates met last night in he Brookhaven for three-year-old trotters at Roosevelt Raceway, the victory going to Stanley Dancers Rodney colt, Something Special, at the direct expense of William T. Mayburys homebred son of Bill Gallon, Galophone, the seasons largest money-winning juvenile last year and an odds-on choice here in the Brookhaven. As was anticipated, this was a merry mile, Something Special forcing Galophones pace and then out-brushing him in the drive to score in 2:05 flat. Although Dancers colt won clearly enough, that hardly tells the full story of the race. Galophone had been forced to score on the extreme outside of the field, while his successful rival had the advantage of the pole.
