Arlington Hurdle Stakes Tests Nine Ginny Bug Staunch Favorite Over JarrinJohnJhe Deacon Trentonian Returning to 4 Action in Flat Feature; Ballydonnell in U.S. Bow ARLINGTON Park, Arlington Heights, 111, June 23. A ,000 prep for the 1401025,000 added Warren Wright Memorial on July 2, and the fifth annual Arlington Hurdle Stakes share the spotlight on Fridays nine-race card at Arlington Park. The ,000 hurdle stakes, presented annually in co-operation with the Midwest Hunts Association, is for horses four years old and upward. Nine starters, representing eight interests have been named for the event, which will be contested at about two mile" on the grass course. The Arlington Hurdle Stakes is the only major jumping event run at a major track in this area. Horses will go twice around Arlingtons mile grass oval, negotiating 10 jumps in all. The Jock Purse highlights the first Chicago appearance of Calumet Farms highly regarded three-year-old, Trentonian, and the American racing debut of Mrs. Joseph Tomlinsons Irish-bred, Ballydonnell. .Completing the six-horse field are Dr. Sidney Babbitz Speed Rouser, John F. Becks River Gale, H. H. Mundys Cor-pick, and F. Gay Drakes Dogoon. To maintain eligibility to the Arlington. Hurdle Stakes, contestants must have started in two brush or hurdle races on the Midwest Hunts Racing Circuit in 1955 under rules of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association. Each nominee must acquire a certain number of points to be eligible for Fridays feature. Last years winner by 25 lengths, Harry S. Nichols Ginny Bug, looms the likely choice again. The spirited eight-year-old mare currently leads in hunts competition this year, boasting a win skein of four in a row. The mare followed up her winning effort at Nashville with successful performances at the Ox-moor meet at Louisville and the Royalton steeplechase session at Indianapolis. McMorrow Rides Mountain Blue Jarrin John, from the J. W. Deaton Stable, ran second to Ginny Bug in his last two outings and can, be expected to be in the thick of contention again Friday. The Deacon, owned by P. T. Cheff, placed to Ginny Bug in his first two wins and then ran third in his -next two, finishing behind Jarrin John. Mountain Blue, who will have the riding services of Leo McMorrow, who rode Russian Hero to an upset victory in the 1949 Grand National at Aintree, England, won impressively at the Royalton meet and should go well here. Others named for the Arlington Hurdle are Port Call, Heres Why, Menipuss, Lassy BAr and Local Run. Trentonian was assigned top weight of 126 pounds, two more than Dogoon. In the Jock, Speed Rouser must carry 121; River Gate, 115; Corpick; 113; -and Ballydonnell, 107, with the apprentice allowance. All but Corpick are nominated for the Warren Wright. Trentonian is making his first start since finishing seventh in the Santa Anita Derby, won by Swaps. The Bull Lea colt shows a second to Swaps this year in the San Vicente Stakes and a- third in the San Felipe Handicap at Santa Anita. He was injured last April and had to pass up the major spring tests, but has maintained his eligibility for both the Arlington Classic and the American Derby at Washington Park. Dogoon, making his fourth start this year, was sixth in the Chicagoan, after showing in front early in the Balmoral closing day feature. He has an allowance win and a second in two other starts this year. Last year he won four stakes, including the George Woolf Memorial at Washington Park and the Hawthorne Juvenile. He ran third in the Washington Park Futurity. Speed Rouser, another member of the pacemaking set in the Chicagoan, was eleventh in the Balmoral three-year-old feature. Earlier he won the Chicagoan prep j over Honeys Alibi, his fourth win this year in 10 efforts. His best stake performance was a second to Roman Patrol in the Louisiana Derby. River Gate was ninth in the Chicagoan. The colt has four wins this year to his credit, including a Balmoral sprint victory. Corpick, making his fourth start this year, has two wins and a fifth for his efforts. He won his 1955 debut at Churchill Downs and added another at Balmoral before finishing fifth to Summer Solstice, June 3. Ballydonnell, the Ballyogan OTkranell offspring, who recently skipped three-eighths in :35. breezing, has worked impressively for his American debut.
