4 UNITED PRESS NEWS ROUND-OP . a - NATIONAL: Say U.S. Exploded Super Bomb at Bikini Atomic scientists in Chicago said they believe that a super hydrogen-uranium bomb, 500 times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Nagasaki, was detonated by the United States at Bikini. They based their belief on a statement by a Federal official, who said that "fission energy" was released in the 1954 Bikini test bomb explosion. Ford Workers Ratify New UAW Pact DETROIT, Mich., June 23. The director of the CIO United Auto Workers national Ford department said today Ford workers have ratified a new contract agreement containing the first supplementary unemployment benefit plan in the history of the auto industry. Ike Breakfasts With Vermont Women CHITTENDEN, Vt., June 23.--President Eisenhower, garbed in waders and a peaked hat, tried out a new fishing rod in a Vermont trout stream today. The President took off on a fishing jaunt after eating breakfast with 60 Vermont women representatives of the dairy and "agriculture industries. Y., June 23. Gov. Averell Harriman has ordered the ctate public works department to delay its plans to dismiss all its workers, age 70 or over. The governor said in a letter yesterday to superintendent John W. Johnson that he wants time to study all aspects of the new policy, "including the human factors involved." The action followed the disclosure Tuesday that public works was going to cut employes over 70 off the payroll. Recommend Salk Inoculations Continue WASHINGTON, D. C, June 23. A panel of top polio scientists endorsed, eight to three, today the safety of the Salk vaccine and recommended that nation-wide inoculation program continue. The vote was taken before a House commerce subcommittee. Thus, a majority of the nations top polio experts rejected the recommendation, of three prominent authorities that production and use of Salk vaccine be halted until it can be made, "safer House to Ask Debt Ceiling Extension WASHINGTON, D. C, June 23. House Ways and Means Committee sources said today the administration has decided to ask Congress for a one-year extension of the present temporary 81,000,000,000 ceiling on the national debt. Peron today resumed command of Argentinas armed forces. Control of the armed forces was restored to Peron" by War Minister Gen. Franklin Lucero last night in an address to the troops. Lucero had assumed temporary command of all armed, security and police forces following the abortive navy-led revolt of last week. Pinay Pledges France to NATO . SAN . FRANCISCO, Calif., June 23. French Foreign Minister Antoine Pinay answered a Russian "peace offensive" today with a pledge that France will remain a .member in good standing of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Pinay gave this pledge in a speech prepared for delivery at the tenth anniversary meeting of the United Nations. His appearance was awaited with eager interest by a world wondering how the Big Four jplanned to cope with Russias latest diplomatic maneuver. Thailand Premier Ends World Tour BANGKOK, Thailand, June 23. Thai Premier Pibul Songgram returned from a world tour last night to the biggest reception ever recorded here. The premier said "Every country I visited wants peace and is trying its best to prevent war." Jap Soldiers Dont Want to Go Home TOKYO, Japan, June 23. Eleven Japanese soldiers who stayed in Viet Nam after the Pacific war have refused to give up their wives and children and return to Japan, it was reported today. The Kyodo News Agency reported some of the stragglers of the imperial army said they did not want to face the problem of two wives. They married Viet Namese women following the Japanese surrender but already had wives in Japan. Socialists Probe Party Inefficiency LONDON, England, June 23. British Socialists appointed a -commission last night to investigate the deficiencies in their party organization during the May general elections they lost.
