Sam Mele Sold to Redlegs BOSTON, Mass., June 23 UP. The Boston Red Sox announced today that utility outfielder Sam Mele has been, sold to the Cincinnati Redlegs for an undisclosed price. Mele, who joined the Red Sox last year from the Baltimore Orioles, played 42 games for the Sox in 1954, batting .318. He appeared at bat only 32 times this season getting four hits for a .125 average. The 32-year-old Mele joined Boston in 1947 after one year in the minors. In 1949 he went to Washington and in 1952 to the Chicago White Sox. Chicago traded him to Baltimore in 1954 and after 72 games he was sent to Boston.
