Ournav Sweeps Past Joes Jeannie Erases Four-Length4 Deficit in Stretch Boshamer Homebred Neck to Good in Ruthless Purse at Delaware; Jock Scott Tallies By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del:, June 23. Cary C. Boshamers Ournav, three-year-old son of Secnav, overcame a four-length deficit through -the final furlong to accomplish a driving neck victory over Alan T. Clarkes Joes Jeannie in this afternoons featured Ruthless Purse. In third position, another length and a half in arrears, came Elvin M. Warners Hand Reward. Ournav covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45 and returned .80 to his backers in the crowd of 11,440. The 17-to-10 favorite in the field of sophomores, Doug Smalls Aeschylus, was a dull running trailer in the Ruthless, just as he had finished a trailer in the recent Shevlin Stakes at Aqueduct. Prior to that he was a winner here over company similar to that which he met. today, but the racing surface was in a sloppy condition on that occasion. Joes Jeannie, a winner in front-running fashion over the track last week, made an effort to duplicate that performance and it appeared that she would be successful. She held a commanding advantage through the early stages and was as much as six lengths clear at the half-mile marker. She retained a four-length lead at the furlong marker and seemed to be going along fairly well. Victress Closes Resolutely Ournav,. after being in the runner-up position much of the way, failed to respond until midstretch, then she closed resolutely to wear down Joes Jeannie, who went to pieces without warning and shortened stride noticeably in the last sixteenth. At that, Ournav was able to make good by only a neck, completing a saddle double for Tony DeSplrito. .DeSpiritos previous winner was in the fourth race, in which he drove Mrs. William S. McCabes Certified List to a neck victory over Edwin S. Hinemans Dinner Music. Certified List was timed in -4407 for the five and a half furlongs, and paid 2.40. In this position in this juvenile dash was Helen McG. Sauls Big Bunk. The colors of Louis Lee Haggin II., which were borne into second position by Hen Party in the recent Delaware Oaks, were found in the Winners circle following todays fifth event. The whining horse was Jock Scott, a 6.60 long shot ridden by Ovie Scurlock. Jock Scott rallied from just off the pace to whip David G. Neumans Starecase in 1 : 11 Vs. Rebecca Collins homebred Beckys Shirt finished third and waS claimed for ,000 by Ferdinand W. Bond. Magnolia Farms Caddys Pat and Bohemia Stables Magic Toes, both of whom were well regarded in the betting, won the first two races for a 4.80 Daily Double return. Caddys Pat, under Charles Clark, paid .80 straight, while Magic Toes paid .40 for the usual win mutuel.
