Determine Nominated For Arc de Triomphe Rich Longchamp Race to Be Run October 9 Over Mile and Half NEW YORK, N. Y., June 23. Andrew J. Crevolins Determine, four-year-old son of Alibhai, has been nominated for the Prix de lArc de Triomphe at Longchamp, Paris, on October 9, it was announced here today by J. Samuel Perlman, editor and publisher of Daily Racing Form. The publisher had been requested by the Societe dEncouragement, the French equivalent of the Jockey Club, to invite High Gun, Helioscope, Social Outcast, Swaps and Nashua for the Arc de Triomphe, outstanding event of the fall turf season in France. All declined except Determine. The Arc de Triomphe is at one mile and a half, weight-for-age and was first run in 1920. The 1954 renewal of the stake went to Sica Boy, who earned 2,640. Determine is one of the outstanding handicap performers in the United States. He has earned 48,110 and captured 17 races, including the Kentucky Derby, in his three years of competition and, is 11th among the worlds leading money winners. His most important victory this year was achieved in the 63,360 Santa Anita Maturity. He was beaten a neck by Miz Clementine in that start but was moved into the top spot when the Calumet mare was disqualified for a foul. Determine, now at Hollywood Park, is likely to be shipped East following that meeting. He will probably race at Washington Park, near Chicago, before being flown to. France.
