PROTHRO SIGNS WITH PHILS Dr. James Thompson Prothro, of Memphis, has signed a two-year contract with Gerald Nugent, president of the Philadelphia Phillies, to manage the latter team for that period of time. The Phils new boss has been pilot of the Little Rock team of the Southern Association and intends to confer with the Phillies president concerning 1939 prospects as soon as the world series is over. Jimmy Wilson resigned as manager of the Phils last Saturday.
