JACOBS SCORES IN A DRIVE Whips Censor Home in Front in Rockingham Park Headliner. Upslala Outfinishes Favored Lady Infinite Time Indicates Track Is Still in Off Condition. SALEM, N. H.; Oct. 5. Jockey Joe Jacobs put up a rousing drive down the stretch to land John Mundinger"s Censor home in the six furlongs event for higher-priced platers which featured a sunny afternoon of racing at Rockingham Park. Jacobs, lashing down hard with the gad repeatedly in the final eighth, had the Victorian three-year-old a nose clear of Medway Stables Upslala as they flashed past the judges. Jack Whytes Lady Infinite, unable to outrun Censor early, gave ground in the stretch and finished third, a length and one-half off the battling leaders. Galadore was fourth in the field of seven. Censor led all the way in the race and he had to fight all. the way to stay in front. Lady Infinite attempted to match him stride-for-stride down the back stretch and rounding the turn, and. the. winner was never clear by more than half a length. As Lady Infinite began to tire in. the final sixteenth Upslala came up fast for third place and almost headed the pacemaker. Jacobs began whipping soon after the start, in an effort to kill off Lady Infinite, the choice, for it is probable that if she had once reached the front she. would never have been headed in the stretch. Jacobs used the lash as freely as any rider has used it at the meeting, and this was largely why Censor lasted it out. He turned in an extremely game race. Evidence that the track is still deep from hurricane damage was seen in- the time. Censor, though driven hard all the way, ran the distance in 1:13. It was perfect racing weather here today and a large throng took advantage of the Wednesday half-holiday that prevails in this section to see the sport.
