APPROPRIATE BIRTHDAY GIFT Porters Mite Scored Victory in Rich Belmont Futurity on Owners Natal Day. SEATTLE, Wash., Oct. 5. William E. Boeing, rethed airplane manufacturer, returned to Seattle to spend his birthday anniversary with his family last Saturday. It so happened that on the same day he had a colt named Porters Mite running in the Belmont Futurity, worlds richest turf event for two-year-olds. Porters Mite, as has been recorded in the public prints, won a smashing victory and Boeings cup of happiness was overflowing. It was the most bonny Boeing birthday in its fifty-six renewals. Over the week end the Seattle sportsman, with Mrs. Boeing, again put out to sea on his palatial ocean-going yacht for a cruise in northern Pacific waters. Porters Mite, by his performance on Saturday, immediately becomes one of the winter book favorites for the Kentucky Derby. In addition, the colt is eligible for the Arlington Classic, the Withers, Preakness, Belmont Stakes and the Lawrence Realization. The Boeing stable, under the direction of trainer Ted Horning, was scheduled to leave Belmont Park today for California, where the entire string, including Porters Mite, is expected to be seen in action at Santa Anita. The latter, it is expected, will be pointed particularly for the Santa Anita Derby.
